well I think an upgrade to C2D is significant (to me at least) and for my pocket - I was always going to have to get 1gig RAM and pay extra for it - now I don't have to spend that money - it comes stock
The slight bump in stock HD offerings isn't a want of mine - but is nice.
Primarily I'm excited about this revision - as it is a revision and hopefully will have less issues than the problematic-appearing revA MB.
If you plan to upgrade the RAM anyhow - go for the 2.0 model. It has Superdrive (DL), 1 Gig RAM, 4 MB Processor cache (instead of 2MB for the 1.83) and bigger HD.
The 1.83 Model is CRAP

I think the point the video is trying to make is that buggy device drivers are a big hole into the OS (nothing earth shattering about that!). Presumably they did it against a Mac to get more publicity (and to be fair, if it had been a PC we'd have had people on here shouting about how insecure Windows is!), but the fact they used a 3rd party card raises lots of questions in my mind. The first is that it could be a single wireless card on the market that has such bad drivers that there are holes in all versions of their drivers. The second is that it is possible that they actually wrote the drivers themselves complete with holes they could "exploit". The thinking behind this suggestion is why on earth would any 3rd party manufacturer create a USB wireless card with Intel OSX drivers for it? (I don't think kernel device drivers can work under rosetta) - there wouldn't be a market for it at all. The other option is that the driver is the same one used for Airport, but in that case why not just exploit the Airport card?
IMO the message is a valid but simple one - your OS is only as secure as the device drivers it's using, but beyond that it's full of FUD

ATT fanboys always say "For now it's unlimited" as if VZW will really get rid o f unlimited since ATT + T-Mobile announced the merger.
ATT Fanboys are really hoping for VZW to end unlimited.
VZW is going to be the biggest phone company anymore, I bet they don't get rid of unlimited data for a long time. VZW needs to stay competitive as they are not going to be the biggest company anymore....................
well considering the CFO of verizon said the unlimited data plans were not a long term solution, yeah it's pretty feasible to think that they won't keep it around forever.
Current switchers can grab the $30 per month unlimited data plan for their iPhone 4, but that could all change shortly. The offering, which Shammo said was "not a long-term solution," was likely just a marketing tool to entice the first wave of iPhone users to jump from AT&T, which currently does not offer an unlimited data plan.

Droid updates come in just fine over 3G, plus i feel the VZW version of the iphone 5 will infact be LTE since the iphone 5 is now delayed!
In you case, Enjoy att tiered data and if you are on att unlimited data, try an use alot of data then att will claim you are tethering and automatically switch you to tiered data.
VZW has not done any of this!
yeah, but those droid updates are not 600mb - 1gb in size..

 Here's a possibly dumb question, but per Apple's support site, the following video play back specs are given for iPod (5G) playback:
iPod can play the following video formats:
H.264
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
Video: Up to 768 kbits/sec, 320 x 240, 30 frames per second (fps), Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, and stereo audio.
MPEG-4
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
Video: Up to 2.5 Mbits/sec, 480 x 480, 30 fps, Simple Profile.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, stereo audio.
How will the new, higher resolution video play back on the current iPods? Do they currently have higher resolution capability that Apple was just holding back through software?
Great question!
I am wondering the same thing, along with the question of wether or not the current 5G ipod will get the software updates (besides the obvious update to allow it to play these new games) that include some of the features the new 5.5G ipod gets.
I would assume that the loading construct for playing H.264 videos on the ipod, will automatically scale down the video to fit the ipod screen. This may also mean less artifacts while watching videos on the ipod screen, as the encode quality will be higher off the bat !

I started to see problems with battery after 4.3 update. done a bit of research, ping trick didn't work for me. but restart did. the truth is that i'm not running 20 apps as i used to and cut down to roughly half.
but this update seems to be ok with battery so far. been on 62% for last 3 hours, been browsing and tweeting a bit.

This was expected.
Well when you're at the bottom, the only logical places you can go are up or out of business.
Apple is hardly on the verge of bankruptcy, so up is the logical path.
Apple could capture more market share if they loosened the purse strings a bit and dropped some prices.
Nothing crazy, but made them more affordable for the average Joe out there. They have the margins to do it, but still keep prices on the high side.
My daughter needs to use a Mac for school work, but I simply cannot justify the $1k plus expense for a bottom of the line Mac Book.
My 2008 Dell 1525 (Cost $400 new) short of the EFI/BIOS difference, is spec'd identically (same CPU, GPU) to the 2008 13" Mac Book Pro and runs 10.6.6 and just fine.

Not everyone likes the touchscreens. I would buy a 200GB classic tomorrow. Not everyone wants iOS and apps and games and all that crap on an MP4 player. i know i don't. the iPod touch should go. they already have an iPhone, i want to listen to music with the occasional video on the bus. and with physical buttons i can change the song with the thing in my pocket. I like the UI and the clickwheel. call me old if you like but im 17.
You seem pretty defensive against someone simply stating what they like better. Notice the 'to me' and the statements of product specs (storage) in your previous quote.
Personally - I like the UI of the iOS better than the firmware running on iPods. I feel like it's just like navigating a giant directory - with folders inside of folders inside of folders (which... it is). I feel like I can get to songs faster (and safer) while in the car with iOS - plus since I have an iPhone I don't have to worry about leaving things in the car/getting too hot or cold. Works better for me, maybe not you.
If they were the same price, same capacity - and the iPod Touch couldn't run anything except the iPod app (fw 1.0 days) - I'd still go with the iPod Touch.

It's a bit of a cross post, but in the "Waiting for Arrandale" thread a member mentioned going to their local Apple store to buy a MBP and the sales associate mentioned that there was a big box in back and apparently some new SKUs popped up in the system. Thought you might want to know...
So I got sick of waiting on Apple to update the MBP, so I headed down to Delaware to pick one up. While I was there, one of the sales people told me that there was some box in the back, and she really thinks it is the updated ones. She also said about some new SKUs that she saw.
I'm not sure if she knows what she is talking about, but she said she bought a MBP about a month or two ago and is sad she didn't wait because she didn't know they were updating.
It seemed pretty promising, so I figured I'd pass it along.
I have 14 days to return this one and exchange it for a new one if that does happen Tuesday :)

But, my giant WTF goes to the bolded. You really think the Revolutionary War was unnecessary? How else would you have proposed separating from Britain?
It would've saved me a lengthy and costly Visa application process!
But seriously. Gaddafi and his regime has been hated for years, he just managed to stay under the radar with the crazier mofos in the Middle East taking focus.
Sending US or British troops in would be a bad idea, because nobody wants another occupation, but enforcing a no fly zone means a couple of things. We help make the revolution there a slightly leveller playing field. We are responding to all of the reports of distress from human beings.
Obama isn't sending you to war but to assist in a humanitarian effort against a sociopath. I fear that the Islamic nations backing action had sectarian reasons behind their support though.

In other words, you can only run OS X on a Mac, because all Macs ship with it.No, You can run OS X on non Macs but not legally under the EULA because currently Apple only sells OS X as an OEM with it's hardware or as an upgrade for systems that already come with a Mac OS.
But you can buy OS X 10.4 and install it on any Mac sold in the last 5 years. You don't need 10.1, 10.2 or 10.3 installed in order to install 10.4, and I imagine 10.5 will be the same.So what. You can buy an upgrade package of winXP and install it on any computer well over 5 years old that had win98 installed on it. You didn't need to install WinMe, Win NT, or Win2000.
You are legally only allowed to install the stand alone OS X 10.4 software on systems that originally came with the Mac OS. It's an upgrade.

Well, I think you said "maybe," but it's all good now. I will put the Plextor DVD-RW Drive in the bottom bay. Question though, I have Toast 7 for Power PC, but will it work alright under rosetta, or do I have to buy a Universal Binary? No I most certainly did not say "maybe". I said "definitely". The Toast 7.1 update is UB. It's FREE.

so I see we're back to iOS Rumours again...
iOS 4.3.1 being released is not a rumor, its a fact.
and here are some MacRumors FAQ:
http://guides.macrumors.com/Help:MacRumors_FAQ
Why does a "Mac rumors" site have so many stories about iPods and iPhones and iPads?
Applerumors.com is an alias of this site, and more correctly describes the purpose of the site, to provide up-to-date news and rumors about Apple Inc. and its products.
MacRumors was established before Apple expanded its business from computers to the digital music, mobile phone, and tablet markets and added products and services as varied as Apple TV, the iTunes Store, and MobileMe.
The site is still called MacRumors because the name is so well-known and "market branded" with millions of visitors every month.
Our news and rumors will continue to reflect Apple's business, wherever that takes us. We also cover stories of widespread interest to our regular readers, such as news and speculation about major software developers and third-party product and service vendors closely associated with Apple or competing with Apple.
Get used to it.

Yeah I'm happy to wait for the new editions to come out...heck if it comes out these next weeks I'll be happier. I do think Apple has held it out a bit too long, but I think we'll all be happy once it comes out.
Heck it'll be a hell of a lot better than the HP laptop I own...god it's so slow.

2.00GHz 17" iMac - $1849
2.16GHz 20" iMac - $2299

That's a bit higher than I'd thought for the 24" model, I was thinking about $2599 but ah well.
Off to check out edu prices.
It's $1999 Stateside. It's actually proportionally cheaper in the currency conversion than the 17" stripper base model.

My wife and I are both alive and well, we only just got electricity back about an hour or so ago. Worst 4 days of our lives, but we got off lucky. Others lost everything, including themselves.
It's a MBP on wireless internet. When it hit, I was hunkered in the interior bathroom with it, the cell phone, a flashlight and two very upset cats.
Glad to hear your OK Corvus.:)
(that's not to say I don't have sympathy for those that didn't fare so well)
