I'm not fooling anyone. I live in California. I know what its like to be price gouged for everything cost of living wise. I am very lucky to be able to afford the lifestyle. I would have no problem paying a 10-15% premium for a product made here, that is supported here, and helps develop my community.
10-15% is not going to happen. There would be an uproar. However I am willing to bet the margin will be reduced by at least 15% which would be catastrophic as a profit driven company. Apple is doing what's best for it's share holders (some of which are in your community).

Not sure about Voice Control... No matter how well it works, I will probably feel strange taking to a phone. And most of the time it's just easier to press a button than to say it.
This might be in response to Google's voice thing though, which also recognizes "Plain English" and works with speech-to-text instead of typing. This might be something cool for writing text messages and stuff like that, as typing on the iPhone isn't the best.

This is the classic response of the mac forum member who wants to act too cool to care that someone, in fact, proved them wrong.
The fact that Apple makes a quality product and provides solid customer service has not escaped me. My point was that Apple's practice of charging top dollar for outdated technology and keeping their customers in the dark as to new releases is poor. The only true way to show your disapproval of this practice is by closing your wallet.
If you want to prove me wrong, feel free to cite to a Consumer Reports article which promotes overcharging for older technology or withholding information from consumers which forces them to make purchases without full information about the market ... about any company.
Check and mate.
Most people (myself included) are quite frustrated that Apple hasn't released the new MBP yet ... which is really frustration at the company for their practices. I think most would appreciate a simple announcement that new MBP's are coming out on a certain date, or a statement that they are working on specific technology, etc.

I have to go mucking around with plugins to get Flash out of my face on OS X, compared to the iPhone, which does it for me.
All jokes aside, I personally dont like Flash, but Im not quite sure I see the evil of just having the option for it on the iPhone.

Correct , that building is run entirely on batteries, but you can only work in it for a maximum of 10 hours:-)
It's right across from the Droid building where they only work 3 hours. That's why that group has a hard time catching up in OS development.
Ouch.
I get 36 hours on my Droid X without any issues...

They are the foundation of everything in the pop & rock world with a reach way outside of just pop & rock. Like Zepplin or Pink Floyd? You like the Beatles. Like Coldplay or Eminem or Devil Wears Prada or Pat Metheny or whatever ... you like the Beatles.
not really. If I like Pink Floyd, I like Pink Floyd...not the Beatles.
Saying I like Apples doesn't = I like oranges...though both are fruit.
the Beatles are talented, but tired. That was my point.
I know everyone loves them, and I also know that everyone loves the familiar...but, uh, there's loads better new music from this century and I think it would be nice to let a dead dog lay.

Hmmm...... If you look closely at the banner photo you'll see the "64-bit" logo is awfully close to the photo of the iMac. The current Intel iMacs are not 64-bit since the Core Duo (1) processers are 32-bit. Could this mean that the iMacs are going to get the new Core Duo 2 processers, which just happen to be 64-bit.
Same goes for the MacBook Pros

I find the timeline in the current iMovie harder to work than some of the older versions. now.
Are you aware you can change the timeline to look like imovie6 HD? My biggest gripe about iMovie 11 is no third party plugins. iMovie 6 can use them though. I'm hoping the next FCE (if there will be one) has the same power as FCP. Yeah, it will be dumbed down but I want a semi pro editor for home use.

You still have not explained your position. Why does a country NEED such a large military budget and how does it benefit the citizens of said country?
As for why Countries like Canada and the US fare better with a large Military.
Let's call it a personal preference ... I am not as convinced as others that may believe having a strong Military should be a low priority.
To each their own ... have you ever thought that if the US slashed their military budget to 100 billion ... that money would just get squandered away.
or do people think ... oh no, our Government all of a sudden would spend it wisely.

This message is addressed to the folks that say the new Nano is just like the Mini.
The new Nano, while sharing similarities to the old Mini, is a newly designed iPod.
Check here for a comparison:
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/firstlooks/
Need to scroll down 2/3-3/4 way down the page.
For clarification, I am not saying that the new Nano and old Mini do not share similarities. But look at the size and shape difference. Also realize the new Nano is flashed based with more space (8GB model) than the original Mini with HD. Additionally, better display, longer battery life, etc. Sure they share the same connector. That is a standard on all models except the Shuffle.
Personally I think that the new Nano looks great. Looking forward to colors at the 8GB model level sometime down the road.

Tapped digs up the transcript from the second presidential debate:
BROKAW: Senator Obama, let me ask you if -- let's see if we can establish tonight the Obama doctrine and the McCain doctrine for the use of United States combat forces in situations where there's a humanitarian crisis, but it does not affect our national security.
Take the Congo, where 4.5 million people have died since 1998, or take Rwanda in the earlier dreadful days, or Somalia.
What is the Obama doctrine for use of force that the United States would send when we don't have national security issues at stake?
OBAMA: Well, we may not always have national security issues at stake, but we have moral issues at stake.
If we could have intervened effectively in the Holocaust, who among us would say that we had a moral obligation not to go in?
If we could've stopped Rwanda, surely, if we had the ability, that would be something that we would have to strongly consider and act.
So when genocide is happening, when ethnic cleansing is happening somewhere around the world and we stand idly by, that diminishes us.
OBAMA: And so I do believe that we have to consider it as part of our interests, our national interests, in intervening where possible.
But understand that there's a lot of cruelty around the world. We're not going to be able to be everywhere all the time. That's why it's so important for us to be able to work in concert with our allies.
Let's take the example of Darfur just for a moment. Right now there's a peacekeeping force that has been set up and we have African Union troops in Darfur to stop a genocide that has killed hundreds of thousands of people.
We could be providing logistical support, setting up a no-fly zone at relatively little cost to us, but we can only do it if we can help mobilize the international community and lead. And that's what I intend to do when I'm president.
http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/president/debates/transcripts/second-presidential-debate.html
My emphasis. No one can say he's not acting consistently with this statement, made live in front of approx 50-60 million people, just weeks before everyone went to the polls.

My 2 cents: The MacBook are definitely going to be updated this month. Most likely tomorrow. Why do I think this? AppleInsider has reliable sources, they have never completely been wrong. The MacBooks will get Core 2 Duos (1.83, 2.0, 2.16), 802.11n cards, and possibly hard drive & RAM increase. Realistically we won't be getting a dedicated graphics card, bigger screens, or firewire 800.
Enjoying my Core 2 Duo MBP.
Precisely, except maybe not 2.16 GHz

Toys R' Us?
I find it kind of embarrassing that Apple is choosing this as an outlet.
Say you'd own Apple and sold 100,000 ipads to Toys "R" Us making 10 (TEN!!) million dollars in profit (at $ 100 a piece or so) would you be embarrassed?
Hello?:-)

This is almost the exact post I wrote yesterday on the last 4.3 update thread. It is driving ne nuts. And I'm sure I was able to distinguish between texts and emails before. I'm filing it under bug too.
Mr. Hatbasket and MacFreak:
In case you are curious, I just had my wife text me (I have 3G3 running iOS 4.3) and I set my phone to vibrate. When she texted, it only vibrated once. So I'm guessing there is a setting that isn't working for you. Since you are saying that you know several people this is happening to, then I doubt it would be a file corruption issue.
I hope this helps.
