Is it just me, or did you just register to BUMP THIS THREAD and do some advertising for that site? How lame...
Actually, it is just you. ;) Granted he is a newbie, but he is actually one of our past clients who really liked the work we did for him. And being that he is a bit computer savvy, and I asked him to jump on the fourms and give us plug if he wanted to. Sorry for the misconception. :D

Glad I saw the software updates, ordered a 30G black refurb, but it's a 5G, so, I can get the higher res videos and play games. that works for me. Couldnt beat it for $199 + tax.

Also it should be noted that launchd is preferred over cron on Mac OS X.

So do you think, buying the i7 would make it lag less or even better not lag at all?
Depends if the bottleneck is the CPU or GPU. I am assuming it is the GPU, so you would feel no difference between i7 and i5, as they both have the same GPU chip.
IF the CPU is limiting performance, then you would very well have better performance with the i7.
EDIT: It seems the i7 has a slightly higher GPU base clock rate of 1300 Mhz compared to 1100 Mhz on the i5. How that translates into practical performance is not know to me though.

I got a Samsung BX2431 24" with a max of 1080, which I've found really nice. I spent all day in the library using a 24" iMac, so I was able to get a sense for the differences when I got home. The big thing is to calibrate the Samsung properly. Other than that, the Samsung monitor seems to have less color gamut, but is still very bright and almost as sharp.

I found this online yesterday after using many different apps to not get exactly what I was looking for, this. I'm posting this because I couldn't find it on MR but google had the answer. Maybe this will help someone in the future. :)
I used iFile to make the changes.
Here's a screenshot from my iPad...

Hi, I just got my first apple product (a macbook pro) a few days ago. I bought XCode 4 from the appstore, installed it and created a new OpenGL ES project.
After a few frames of running with no code modifications from me, the program crashed with LLVM ERROR: Cannot yet select...
So, after trying various things, the project crashes in the same way regardless of the XCode version (tried XCode 3 also) and regardless of the iPhone or iPad version.
I don't have access to the developer forums because I didn't pay the $99 to be a paid developer.
Does anybody have any ideas on what I should try next?
Thanks!

hey i have a 3gs FW 4.3.1 BB 6.15. i'm not sure if its new bootrom or old bootrom but the serial num is 880270893NS.
everything is working but i want to restore to factory settings so do i need to restore with a custom firmware? is there a way to restore without having cydia on it? does anybody have a custom firmware that will work on my 3gs without installing cydia?
Thanks
Because you have the iPad baseband, you can't restore it to factory setting. Baseband can't be downgrade.

Hi there,
Okay I bought some iPhones a while back to sell on eBay. Turns out the profit margins are much lower now and there's so much fraud out there on the buyer side (people buy then do chargebacks) that I just want to get my money back on these, not really interested in making a profit. I don't want to deal with eBay anymore.
So I have two of each - 2 16gb iPhones and 2 8gb iPhones. They are both unlocked and still in their shrinkwrapping. I am able to peel just a portion of the shrinkwrap away from the dock connector, unlock them, and then replace it so these things look as if you were to have just opened it at the Apple store.
You can see my post count here and see that I have been a MR Forums member for a very long time. Also, please view feedback under the ebay account "hungarianhc."
I usually include the shipping price, but i'll ship anywhere that you have a paypal verified address. If you don't have a paypal address, i'm willing to accept a money order as well. I just want to get these phones off my hands and not lose any money! I'll attach a pic of one of them. Thanks! PM me if you're interested. And yes... I'd really love to sell ALL of them in one big bundle so that will get priority! Happy to ship them individually as well.

too bad about the lack of acd updates. i'm not ready to buy one myself, but a friend i work with was buying a new setup for herself, so I told her of the upcoming mac pro refresh and possible acds, but i just told her this morning to go ahead and head up to NH to get a tax free MP (she also gets edu because she takes a few classes every year). In good news she's buying a HP 30" monitor from IT at work for $900. She also claims that ebay has some HP 30"ers for $900 shipped, but i try to stay away from the fleabay these days. Still, it was tough to tell her to pay $800 for a 23" when she could get a 30" for $100 more. The HP is ugly, but she's a designer with a rather picky eye and she used it all day yesterday to test it and just loved the actual screen.
it's not that ugly, and the screen is truly something to behold.

On the topic of photo storage and editing, I ran across this blog post in an app on my iPad called Photoverse. It details how to use star ratings to thin out a shoot without dumping any photos.

Thanks for sharing this app Dale! I have a lot of research to do! :)
ok 100Teraflops I use a Mac Pro daily for Music and Photography, The Mac Pro is a good beastie but alone it cant do the job, it must be paired up to a good Monitor, IPS panel if possible, I did use apple's but found the Dell's re-produced colour better. When you purchase your DSLR will you shoot RAW or Jpeg, think about it, RAW may be bigger files, but you can keep producing a good quality image from just 1 RAW file, On the subject of a scratch disk try and dedicate a complete disk as scratch.
my MP is set up as follows,
bay 1 :500gb for OS & apps
bay 2 :320gb as Scratch Disk
bays 3 & 4 : both have 1tb hdd's in a raid 1 configuration for music and stuff
All my RAW files & Aperture library are on a WD my book studio 4TB edition in a raid 1 via fw800 giving me 2TB to use, The system is simple and it works well. the big hdd's are all green WD drives. Hdd's are cheap now, but get the biggest you can afford (don't buy at the apple store), I find using Raid 1 I spend less time now backing up. The hardest part of photography is deleting images, you may take 100 shots and find only 2 of them are keepers, but getting rid of blurry, out of focus files will free up a lot of space,
you have had some excellent advice on here so far, and it will be nice to hear how you finally set up your workflow, keep us posted :)
Thanks for recommending the specs of a quality monitor. Your Mac Pro HDD configuration is simple and easy to understand. Are you using striping from OS X or did you set you RAID 1 with only two drives? I agree that it is very hard deleting photos, as I do not delete photos after I take them. I wait a few days or longer, and then decide if they are keepers. However, I take photos of my family etc and occasionally automobiles and landscape. Also, you are right that I have received excellent advice from the forum members. You folks rule! :)
I will keep you all posted. I am thinking that I should buy a Mac Pro soon! From what I have read on this forum, a new Mac Pro is not expected until 4Q 2011 or 2012. I do not want to wait that long for a stupid processor chipset. :D A few months is optimal, but 6-8 is not feasible. Thanks again for sharing knowledge and swapping ideas!

I have a 16GB iPod touch (1.1.3 with apps, Incase black protective cover, Power Support anti-glare protector) and would like to trade for an unopened 8GB iPhone. I have the original box and all the stuff it came with. There are NO MAJOR scratches on the back, just normal ones from my iPod sock. The screen has no issues nor scratches. It's been used since Christmas day, but looks new.

I keep seeing percentages but never the raw numbers. iOS and Android may be increasing their market share but is the market just increasing as far as the number of users? I would guess that iOS and Android aren't leeching customers from traditional handhelds so much as expanding the user base overall and their market share is increasing because that increased user base is only coming from those devices and not from the traditional handhelds (ie DS, PSP, etc.)

The PRAM is on the logic board. If the battery is not present, you will lose your time every time you restart, that's about it. No harm, really, just annoyance.

I remember when I played with the last gen MBA in the Apple Store; my thought was that this thing was TOO light. I just couldnt get into it. Then there was also the price. Yikes. Then I played with the new gen 11 recently, and I was all like ooooooooo. Still an 11 display is too small for my needs, so if I really feel the need for ultra portable second machine, I think an iPad will do. As far as the horsepower ting goes, I have no idea if Im a power user or not. I know Im definitely not a light user. I have a habit of having a dozen applications each with multiple windows/tabs open including the life sucking Safari as well as Photoshop, huge amounts of photos open at once, and editing video.
I've never understood the argument against the Air because of it's lack of DVD drive. I have no idea when the last time was I used mine, and it takes up a massive amount of space and weight on my MacBook.
I use the OD on my MBP often as I author a lot of disks, but when Apple inevitably drops the OD, I really dont plan on coming unglued. I can always get an external OD, and since I do the burning at home, its not like Ill have to lug it around.

Hi All,
I've unfortunately been issued a work PC, so I'm wondering if there is a way to take advantage of the real estate (not resolution) of my 30" ACD. The only way I think this will work is by doing the following:
1. Connecting the MiniDisplay cable from the Dual-Link DVI adapter into:
http://storeimages.apple.com/1837/as-images.apple.com/is/image/AppleInc/MB571?wid=326&hei=326&fmt=jpeg&qlt=95&op_sharpen=0&resMode=bicub&op_usm=0.5,0.5,0,0&iccEmbed=0&layer=comp
2. Mini DisplayPort Coupler (Female to Female)
http://images2.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/65001.jpg
3.Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

Is this a solution or should I prepare myself for failure? Is there a better way to do this?
Thanks!

I can see how it might be useful, but at the same time, it clutters everything up (especially mission control) and makes it difficult to find the document I'm working on.
