Are the new Nanos still going to come with the Samsung Chip? I hope so.

It's a shame that these $65.00 chinese 1GB MP4 players with the Samsung chip have MP3 playback - Video - FM Radio - eBook Reader - Photo Viewer - Voice & FM Recorder, yet the Nano at three times the price does not! ( linky: http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp022 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0wht1024mp029 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp031 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp015 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp035 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0pur1024mp033 )

The Nano with these features, plus iTMS, will withstand anything coming from Sandisk, MS, Creative, or the cheap Chinese imports.

Bring them on! My kids just can't wait. (me too) :)

ETA: Deleted my first post, as there is now an updated Apple link. :p

I'll have to check my iBook tonight, to see if I have one of the batteries. I'm guessing I do; I purchased my iBook in February and am still using the original battery. Oh well; it was ready for a new battery, anyway.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread (the MBP discussions are most of what I'm caught up in now  ), but I noticed an interesting article on MacNN that talked about this as well. To paraphrase, it said that when the iTunes TV shows were first made available, Walmart sent back DVDs of Lost, Desperate Housewives, etc., refusing to sell them. Looking on Walmart's site now, though, both Seasons 1 and 2 of Lost are available, both online and in stores (just as an example).

Threatening not to sell movies has a limited impact. I think Walmart is responsible for some 40% of DVD sales (not positive on that number), but if people can't buy DVDs at Walmart, they don't think: "Well shoot, I guess I just won't get this movie." They'll either complain or go somewhere else. This may be tough in communities where Walmart is the only major shopping center, but Walmart can't really blame movie studios when Walmart is the one refusing to sell the product.

I agree with other peoples' posts when they say that Apple's primary movie market will not really affect Walmart's sales (mostly wealthier middle class types who can afford to dump $300 on a streaming media device). I refuse to shop at Walmart for a variety of reasons myself; this just adds to the list.

i really think is comming out this tuesday i mean a lot of people are reporting problems of stock in a lot of shops around the world and it doesnt make sense that there is a sudden lack of mbps if there is no update commign soon..

Sorry to disagree. My local Best Buy, Amazon, and B&H Photo (where I buy my camera equiptment and a good place to buy computers with no tax and Apple Care for a great price) are all fully stocked. This could be the stores knowing the product life cycle and trying to reduce inventories by ordering less and less with each restock.

I could easily see them releasing after the stock is truly depleted so no one needs to discount to move out old inventory which is probably more profitable at the moment. But, I don't know and can't see any reason at this point to hold off introducing a new computer in fear of compromising iPad sales.

Anyway, the complete lack of any tangible rumors for a 'this Tuesday' release is keeping my expectations low. I am placing the odds, based on nothing, at 1:4 for this Tuesday and 4:5 for the next four Tuesdays. If not this Tuesday I may instead buy a refurb imac. Apple told me that I could return it within 30 days (of placing the order) without a restock fee if I exchange for a higher priced item. It looks like a refurb imac 3.3 and a MB might cost about the same as a high end 15" MBP. Anyway, the wait goes on.

why does it say 50% faster. i thought merom was only 20% faster than yonah?

From what I understand, it is 20% faster at the same clock speed. They are comparing a 2.0 CD to a 2.33 C2D so maybe that's where the 50% faster stat comes from.

I'd be happy if they supported over-the-air WiFi syncing. We can update the OS OTA but not sync my contacts and calendar items? Sheesh.

Nah dude, the battery division is in a different building :-)

Correct , that building is run entirely on batteries, but you can only work in it for a maximum of 10 hours:-)

It's right across from the Droid building where they only work 3 hours. That's why that group has a hard time catching up in OS development.

The Shack used to be great when you could get all kind of obscure parts, rows and rows of them. Needed to solder something or make your own audio banana plugs? Radio Shack had them. But they pulled all the "parts" out of Radio Shack and now they are just another overpriced electronics store.

i think i would rather read a paperback

wouldnt the screen strain the eyes?

I used to think that, but then I started using my old (now deceased) Kyocera 7135 smartphone to read books. Smaller screen than the iPod, not as high resolution. At one point I read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in a single weekend on it, with absolutely no feelings of eye strain. It's not an issue any more.

I found when reading on a smart phone I actually preferred it over a paperback -- easier to hold open (so I could sip my coffee), no worries about losing the page, backlight meant that I could read on the bus in the morning on the way to work, or other places where lighting wasn't always convenient.

Additionally I found I read more, because I always had several books with me, and they were always handy -- standing in a supermarket lineup, I could pull it out and read 2 or 3 pages while waiting.

These days I've even experimented with using j2me to read books on my T610. Not as comfy as the Kyocera, but again no issues with eye strain.

If the T610 is readable, the iPod will be no problem...

While we don't know exactly how the Firmware update was designed, it would appear as though the update will simply ignore symptoms of a SMC short circuit to allow the laptop to continue operating. If this is the case it may degrade a MacBook's ability to detect true over-heat situations.

This is what I assumed when I read that the update "resolves" the issue, which is pretty optimistic wording. Perhaps they implemented some firmware method to detect overheating that doesn't rely on the sensor. I would love to know more information, since this update will appear for everyone with a MacBook whether or not they've been experiencing the shutdowns.

Anybody have a sense of whether this update will work for the MBP's? And if not, why Apple decided to ignore the exact same issue on their pro line?

i dont remember this being an issue with the pros????

Mass attacks--viruses/worms/etc.--are by far the most likely threat to encounter, but you can also be individually attacked, or tricked by someone's WiFi trap. Mac owners too should keep that in mind. Just because we are so safe from viruses doesn't mean security is ever 100%.

And the people doing this demo seem to have been responsible about it--telling Apple and the other affected companies the details, but NOT telling the public.

    So... good catch!

The album artwork retriever feature doesnt work that well. Gets some albums, some I didnt even know iTunes offered, yet ignores some of their best sellers like American Idiot and Demon Days!
