Hi-
Is there any way to get all the stuff that's on my old harddrive onto one of my newer Macs?
The G3's running OS 8.5.1.
I guess if it's possible it'd have to be via ethernet?
It's one of the earlier models that doesn't even have USB (not that that'd make any difference).

I finally figured out why my iBook wouldn't sleep unless I closed the lid or chose sleep from the menu.

My name's Ciar�n, I'm a 3rd year medic at Peninsula Medical School own in the south west of the UK. In our 4th year we do a project on "Doctors as Teachers" and it requires creating a teaching aid of some kind, then writing it up.
I'm looking for a someone adept at iOS programming that might want to collaborate with me on this project, so that it might benefit both of our careers!
I'm looking to create an iPad app teaching medical students/doctors how to identify various tropical diseases via. microscopy. eg. a medical student on an elective somewhere is working in a small clinic, patients comes in with a fever, he/she takes a quick blood sample, chucks it on a slide and pops it under the microscope and can compare what they see to reference images/videos/descriptions on the app. Below would be an example of a particular subtype of malaria (the difference can be quite subtle so some kind of reference and description about what you're looking for is incredibly useful)

The idea would be I would source all the content, write all the entries (which will be referenced to journal articles an whatnot) and you would design an application to present this information.

could you possibly be more specific? what is it telling you? why can't you install your copy? Is it the original copy that came with the iMac??

i have a similar issue, but i thought it was the Quadro 4000's fan. i might be wrong, it could be the Mac Pro fans. but anyhow, yes, i hear the fans all day long. not sure what causes this. i do know that the Quadro 4000 runs very hot.

facebook button is relatively new. we had it, but it was causing problems (slow load times), so we switched to a different version, which does look different.

Hey everybody, I'm in the market for a Mac Pro. I do allot of 3D animation rendering so it's incredibly processor intensive but I have only $2,300 to spend on it. Which means, I have to do allot of research as to which one is the fastest at that speed and I could always upgrade my ram and video cards at a different time. I want the bulk of the money to go towards the fastest Mac Pro I can afford that works great for intense rendering. Some of my 3D animations are over 3000 frames. Anyway, I've seen the cinebench test and it looks like the 4-core 2.8GHZ 2010 model is the slowest of them all. I was wondering, would you recoemmend that I get one off of Ebay? I have my eye on the 3.2GHZ 2008 machine and, if affordable, the 2.26 2009 machine which seems to be really fast. What is your opinion? I also compose music so I run allot of plugins, virtual instruments and sometimes over a hundred audio tracks at once. In other words, I push that processor to the limit!!! LOL

Hello,
Been looking for my original iBook G4 disc for a while. Then I found all the original to find that when I boot it up, (yes I am holding c down) it gives me the blinking folder with a question mark and then the finder in a folder? Please explain!
The iBook says apparently it is a DVD, and I am running 10.4.11 and the install DVD has 10.3.5 on it. I open it up when the computer is on and it says it has no items in it? How is this possible???? Please help, I don't want to give up on this poor little guy!

I am not sure what kind of PB you have but if it is 12" then you are maxed out (I think) I know that the 15" and 17" can have 2GB. Now if you have a 15/17" and want to max it out to gain speed I would not worry about it unless you are doing lots of RAM intensive things... If you are a TRUE multitasker and always have tonnes of things open then maybe it would be good. But what I would suggest is to open activity monitor over the next week and monitor RAM usage as well as page-outs to your hard drive to see if you are low on RAM. And remember that inactive RAM to OSX is just like free RAM so don't worry if most of your little pie chart is blue! If you are not low on RAM then adding more will give you no increase in speed. If they are not scratches I would try a mr clean magic eraser. Those things remove just about everything. If they are scratches you could put a small dab of clear fingernail polish on it. That will prevent them from getting worse. Or a full body invisible shield to cover it.

I recently reinstalled my Mac, but I forgot to backup and now I need a very important file that I deleted because I ereased the whole disk. Is there a way to get it back? I have no Time Machine backup, but it's really important.
If it is important you can get it off a backup. If there is no backup, it's not important. If your having trouble with your backup maybe we can help you.

I have the chance to have a look at an Imac G3 400Mhz (Tangerine) 384Mb (64Mb originally).
Had to swap the hard disk because the 15Gb Quantum inside was broken.
So, reinstalled OS 9.2.2 on the new disk. Everything went fine.
Sorry for the preamble but the problem is:
I have a firewire inclosure like this: http://www.byteccusa.com/product/enclosure/ME-320.htm (model is: ME-320F - Oxford 911 chip) but can't have it recognized by the system.
The "System Profiler" shows the firewire bus (2.8.6) with (obviously) nothing attached to it.
I've tried dvd-rom burner, dvd-rom reader, hard disk but with no luck.
The device is not detected in startup, too. (I'd like to boot with that).
I've upgraded the iMac to the latest firmware but with same results.
Another strange thing: on the label on the back of the iMac I read: 400Mhz/512K L2/64MB/10GB/DVD/56. So I think that "DVD" should state for DVD-Rom reader, right? But actually there's only a CD-ROM reader in this iMac... How is it possible?

I am trying to install Win98SE on my iMac G5 using QemuX. Apparently there is a bug in the current version and I need to manually copy some files to the "/opt/local/lib" folder. Where is it? I tried "Go to Folder..." in the Finder and it says no such folder exists.
I am running 10.3.8.
