I understand the need for separation on a system wide basis but not between processes being controlled by the same app.

Hello,
I'm new at this. Bought a Mac 17'' Powerbook a year ago and love it! Windows feels 'junkier' now. What are the coupons for that came with my Powerbook and iPod? Where can they be applied??

Missed by many yesterday due to the fervor of the WWDC Keynote address was an announcement (http://lists.apple.com/archives/Darwin-dev/2006/Aug/msg00067.html) by Apple's Open Source Project Manager, Ernest Prabhakar, concerning Apple and its Open Source initiative.
Mac OS Forge
With the recent announcement of the demise of OpenDarwin.org (http://www.opendarwin.org/), Apple has stepped up to the plate and has created Mac OS Forge (http://www.macosforge.org/), a community site hosted by Apple to "support WebKit and other open source projects focused on Mac OS X, especially those looking to transition from OpenDarwin.org." Current projects include the Bonjour, Collaboration (iCal Server), Kernel (XNU), Launchd, and WebKit.
XNU x86 Source Released
Apple has released the source code for the Intel x86 version of the Darwin Kernel, beginning with Darwin 8.7 (Mac OS 10.4.7). While apologies were offered for the delay in releasing the source, no explanation was given. Speculation had begun earlier in the year that Apple was closing the XNU x86 source (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/05/20060517144323.shtml) due to piracy concerns. MacGuides has an introduction to Darwin (http://guides.macrumors.com/Darwin) and XNU (http://guides.macrumors.com/XNU) for readers unfamiliar with the technologies.
iCal Server Source
As many readers have noted, Apple has indeed released the source for iCal Server (slated to be released with Mac OS 10.5 "Leopard" Server) under the Apache License (http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0.html).
Other Licensing Changes
Bonjour and Launchd projects are now being distributed under the Apache License. The projects were previously relegated to Apple's Apple Public Source License (http://www.opensource.apple.com/apsl/2.0.txt).

Let's hope this is a harbinger of things to come across many BOINC mac apps!

Creating your own theme isn't really that difficult. Especially if you're not going to be creating "posts" and just pages.
Here's an article on how to create your own wordpress theme.
http://www.webdesignerwall.com/tutorials/building-custom-wordpress-theme/
Just skim through the section about posts and comments (since you're not going to be utilizing that).

Your signature keeps saying you left, left again, left again again, yet you keep posting and getting mad at people.

Anyone using it? I started reading up on and learning Ruby and it's quite a bit of fun. Just interested in hearing any thoughts about Ruby and maybe some advice for a newbie. I've dabbled in asp and php, but I am not a programmer. I do know the very basics of programming so I can grasp concepts as I go along. Do you think Ruby on Rails is the way to go when thinking about the future? Or should I just try to stick with learning php? I know RoR is very new, but I love the simplicity of Ruby code and I think it would be more fun to work with than php or perl or any other web programming language.

Is there any way to restore individual apps from iTunes, without completely restoring from a backup? I have lots of save data in a backup of my iPhone, but I don't want to completely restore the device. I am jailbroken if that's required, but an iTunes-direct method would be best. Ideas?
there is a new app called "DataDeposit" on cydia, it does backup your apps data to your dropbox account. haven't tried it yet but the concept is cool.
make sure to refresh cydia and type DataDeposit in the search box without space.

I've got a jailbroken 3GS with BB 06.15.00. What would you say would be the obvious reasons to bump up to 4.3.3? My phone doesn't need to be unlocked and everything is running perfect. I'm kind of thinking I shouldn't mess with it as I don't knowingly *need* the update but maybe there's something I'm not aware of.
Anyone else just sticking with 4.2.1 or earlier as it's not a necessity to update? I know I'd have to use Pwnage Tool to build an .ipsw that would skip updating the BB and that just seems like something I could potentially screw up so...

Completely painless upgrade thanks to Pkgbakup and Dropbox. Now to see if claimed battery improvements are real
No doubt. I was updated and back to normal in just a few minutes.
Battery life seems better but I'll need a few days to really run it through the paces.

Next will be Jobs in the Jack costume, of Jack in the box. Now that would be funny. Maybe this: the stoner guy goes into an Apple Store and wants to buy 20 iMacs. Jobs talks him into one loaded MBP. "You really weren't going to watch all 20, were you?" Jobs asked with the incredulous look mouth. After a pause, the stoner says "Y e a h..they're real...colorful, man. Hey, like do you have a vending machine here. I'm starved man". Jobs' face assumes a stern and disapproving look.

Adoption rate dropped marginally last night. Downgraded to 3.1.3, and at long last, my 3G is usable again!

There seems to be a reading comprehension failure on your part.
You can either set up with a clean slate or use your backup. In this case, restore has a different meaning.
Thank you for your kindness, Ozweepay.

Hello All-
I just got back into distributed computing again with my new C2D iMac. I joined SETI & immediately joined the Mac Rumors team. I was suprised to find myself in 10th place now since I have only this one computer & it is now splitting the proccessor time 50% with the World Community Grid.
I searched for & could not find a MR team for WCG. I read Slookster's call for people to join the fight against AIDS & asked to have us sign in a previous thread to show our support. I figure we just need a team. I would be willing to set one up if that is allowed.
I really like the WCG concept of multiple research projects & that they use the BOINC client. Check it out:

Your best choice for sure. They have them in-stock (I just checked), plus they are a real store (they have a brick and mortar location in NYC). I used them before and they also have very good customer service. I compare them to Newegg, if Newegg had a retail location.

How should I use IOUSBHIDDriver.cpp and IOUSBHIDDriver.h to match my device? Create a kext project adding IOUSBHIDDriver.cpp and IOUSBHIDDriver.h , then??? What should I do?
