Owning a Mac Pro 1,1 I have found it just as usable on Lion as it is on Snow Leopard (It is still a beta at the end of the day so of course there are going to be bugs).

I would say its pretty safe in support, the only reason Apple are removing support of the older generation is due to the 1st gen Core chips using 32bit architecture. The Mac Pro used a Xeon which shared traits with the Core 2 Duo, hence it is actually a 64 bit chip.

How does it run snow leopard? Is it fairly smooth and usable? I'm just concerned about CPU. I'll be upgrading the HDD's, Ram and GPU.

Correct. Just speculation but it appears obvious.

AirPlay and AirPrint are iOS features. AirDrop follows the same nomenclature, it's a pretty good guess that iOS 5 will use AirDrop to drop files into Mac's and other iOS devices.

    Cheers for your replies!

onecajun - which name should I use here? The mac mini server shows as 'Mac Mini Server' to the Macs but there is also a NETBIOS name which is something like 'macmini28138'.

fluffles - one of the problems I suspect might be that the PC appears to be tied to a domain used by the previous (windows exchange) server - if I try to change this then it seems to seriously mess up the user accounts on that PC - not allowing me to log in etc.

256 MBs of RAM costs 18 dollars, 512 costs 60.

If I could find some used RAM cheap maybe from here, I would buy it. :D

Most likely its a hardware fault. Go to the Apple retail store, speak with a 'genius' and they should fix it for you, if not, offer a replacement, they are legally bound to since you are covered by Apple's Apple Care Warranty service - and since it is a hardware defect, not a user fault you should get a replacement free of charge

Has anyone seen the benchmarks of a 2010 Mini Server with like 8gb of ram?? I've always wondered because I bought my wife the 2.4 2010 Mini and it's just slightly too slow. I'm wondering if putting 8gb of ram in a server edition with the 7200 RPM drives makes enough difference (I do web and basic graphic design, so it doesn't need to be a powerhouse).

I'm sort of stuck in a little bit of a limbo. I'm just getting tired of the noise and heat of my huge ass PC tower. Need to upgrade soon anyway, so I'm either thinking about the new refresh mini depending on what it's equipped with, or getting the 2.66 refurb mini and putting that scorpio drive in it (or just the server edition with the dual 500's), or just building my own Sandy Bridge windows 7 box with a mini ITX motherboard so I can make it ultra small. Each solution is around $600 but I need that damn refresh to come out :)

The other wildcard is that I keep seeing these posts saying that the Sandy Bridge built in HD 3000 graphics are worse than the current 320m in most cases... seems to be going back and forth.

Downgrades are not possible normally. The only way to downgrade is to restore to the base version of the OS you wish to downgrade to (or whatever came with your Mac if you haven't upgraded since you bought it), then update to the desired minor version of that OS. Keep in mind that you can't downgrade to anything older than what your Mac came with.

I'd try Sun Baked's suggestions before mine, though.

havent heard back but i think maybe 190 to 200 would be fair

Possibly your hosts file is pointing to cydia instead of apple so apple can't properly authorise the upgrade?

Ok, looking at my Quad.. it seems I do have the newer pump :) It is a panasonic.. can barely make out the name, but the name starts with a P.. Sorry, I made a mistake.. the Quad I have according to the person who owned it told me he got it in June of 2006.

On wii sports boxing its used as your left hand when boxing.(only wii sports games that uses the nunchuck) On zelda its used quite alot. They are the only two games ive got but if you intend on buying a second wiimote then theres no reason not to fork out for a nunchuck. But at the moment there arnt many games that use it to my knowledge. Obiosly zelda does but the excite truck thing doesnt. Soooo ummm theres to reason to have 2 nunchucks just for the hell of it. Sorry for this crap answer but i hope ive informed you a little bit.
