Is $299 the upgrade price or the only price?
Since it is sold through the AppStore it has to be for the full version since you can't sell 'upgrades' in the AppStore.

I don't want to read too much into this, but it's still upsetting that Steve Jobs' health is in bad shape. That being said, I can't wait to read this.
People who agree to work with biographers do so because they want to have control or a strong degree of input of an authoritative biography. They want to make sure their motives and their side of the story (or revisionistic history to cover up mistakes and misdeeds) are read to the public.
Certainly, that would be an attractive idea to an important person who is seriously ill. Though nothing is of use to use when we're dead, the thought of a well-regarded legacy does provide comfort and purpose to those who are given advance warning of their death.
I'm not saying that's the case here with Jobs. But if it were, I wouldn't be surprised.

Phil Schiller is a terrible presenter, perhaps he's a nice bloke.
Watching it in the UK at around 11.30pm last night, it quit out after about half an hour, and the quality was a little choppy before then.
Why did they decide to present the MacPro before the OSX leopard stuff? Maybe cos they didn't want to wheel Phil Schiller on at the end?
With regards to Jobs looking ill, lets face it, he works hard, and he's knocking on a bit now. Must have been a pretty hectic period shifting over to a different chip.

I agree, the speaker grills are definitely smaller...good sign for me at least, I'm waiting on a new MacBook Pro!
HOWEVER, that part of the banner is a little crumpled over. You can tell by the ripple that it is folded back a bit and would make the grills appear to be smaller. Not sure if it's that, though. Hard to tell!
I wish whoever took the picture would have just run into the room and snapped a few more!
Its the same old MBP. You're being fooled by the perspective.

Some of the bashing is coming from those who were bashing before the sneak peak and, unless this was truly The Second Coming, were always going to continue bashing. They just like bashing.
Others will be genuinely concerned that FCP X doesn't fit with their way of working. Some will go to Avid. And some of them will return to FCP within a couple of years.
What are the odds of these being included with FCPX? Or are they more likely add-ons through the store? Maybe $150 and 50 respectively.....
I wondered if certain bits of Color, Motion, Soundtrack and perhaps even Compressor and additional bits of FCP 7 might be sold as plug-ins via the App Store. And I'd imagine Apple will start soliciting third-party plug-in developers to make their submission for the Store pretty soon too.

Because it's not simple. Don't pretend every woman who wears this crap does so voluntarily.
Yes, and that's why I think this is, on balance, a good law.
Don't pretend that every woman does so involuntarily.
How do you reconcile you claim of valuing personal freedom while at the same time supporting a law that punishes people simply over what they wear and no other statutory transgression?
As you said in a previous post, you wanted to drag them into the modern age. Who are you or anybody else to judge who is "modern" and who is not? The standard for criminal punishment should be conformity to the law and not conformity to the current fashion.

Yes Jobs... it's a database of nearby wifi and cell towers.
Sure such data would be handy to connect quickly.... but you don't need to maintain a DATABASE with data from MONTHS, WEEKS or even DAYS ago.
Such data is not useful for quick connections to nearby cell towers or wifi APs.
Anything over a day old is not useful for the excuse Jobs has given.
That said, I'm not worried from a privacy standpoint as the data is on my phone and I'm not planning on giving anyone access to my phone.
Don't get me wrong,... I'm not being apologetic for this.
It's just that as a shareholder, Job's constant down-playing of THEIR engineering mistakes pisses me off.
Stop making excuses, stop trying to fix the issue with kludges, and just do it right to begin with.

Cingular is not the only GSM carrier in the USA.
T-Mobile is pretty big too. They have just purchased a ton of bandwidth for new high-speed services.
Remember the T-Mobile CEO saying "we have a similar vision as Apple" ?
That's why Cingular went with Microsoft, they know they didn't win over Apple. So, this is most likely going to be a T-Mobile partnership (whose corporate parent has a HUGE presence in Europe).
TMobile is actually pretty small when compared with the top 3:
Cingular
Verizon
Sprint/Nextel
The top 3 comprise 78% of cell phones in the country.
I doubt the comments from the TMobile CEO had much to do with the decision.
Cingular is currently is the only major carrier that does not have an MVNO based on it's lines. (As far as I know)
Verizon has Alltel & Virgin Mobile
Sprint has Virgin Mobile, some TraCphone & other prepaid offerings
AT&T wireless used to have SunCom as an MVNO, but when they merged with Cingular they went independent - putting up their own towers and leasing some towers from Cingular.
It's my opinion that Apple will be a Cingular based MVNO and that the phone will work on TMobile and SunCom - but just won't be supported - just like Cingular phones are now. IE - I can buy a TMobile Sidekick on eBay and use it on Cingular, I just don't have the same plan or all features available to me.
The only alliance that I see Apple may have with T-Mobile is that Danger - which makes the semi-exclusive T-Mobile SideKick has Steve Wozniak as an investor.
Now, you can look at that coincidence from two angles:
1) It's just something Woz saw promise in
2) He's been there (at Danger) as a technology partner/development partner for Danger all along to be able to assist Apple first hand with their own Phone efforts. A plant, if you will.
Personally, I see the iPhone as being something very very similar to a Sidekick ... but better.

I have no idea what you are trying to achieve since no matter how much you try to justify it or post false specs and prices, it won't make the SP Mac Pro any better value. It costs a lot more than Dell's equivalent. Period.
Better value is the sum of Hardware + Operating System + Software = Performance
Paper spec used to interest me at one time too, then I grew up. ;)

No one in his right mind thought that there would be two releases in one year.
I thought/think it conceivable they would release a higher-priced Retina version of the iPad 2 just prior to the holidays to keep ahead of the competition. This is assuming the A5 SOC has the horsepower for it, and that the screens are available in high enough quantities.

No, they want you to purchase Logic instead.
I've never understood why the iLife apps don't carry the same names and code base as the pro apps, just with an introduction level of features. So once someone gets hooked on one of the iLife Apps they can just move up the the chain.
I don't mean dumbing any of the them down, just that the iLife versions would start with the most understandable and commonly useful bit of the workflow of each app family. After all if they are rebuilding the core of each family for 64bit and other snow leopard and iOS goodness why not make it all build on itself to shorten the next part of the task.

Quite a few people don't have good depth perception, or none at all.
People with unequal strength eyes will oftentimes grow up without much depth perception, to no ill effect.
Yup, I fall into this category. I have good vision from the perspective that it's sharp and I can see at different focal lengths, but I had a muscle weakness in my eyes as a child (partially corrected via surgery). As a result, 3D doesn't do a lot for me. The loss of brightness and slight lens glare is not worth the trade-off for the (for me) barely noticeable 3D effect in movies.
But something like this seems quite interesting.

pretty similar to the rumors on page 2 (obtained by macrumors directly, but "unverified") except that those rumors also include displays and a core 2 duo in something other than the mac pro.
I'm going to split the difference and say
- leopard
- mac pro
- xserve
- displays
Same as I've been saying for a while now! :p
I think I'm most excited about leopard as I won't be in the market for any hardware for a while now.

So many good batsmen fail to go on from a century, they relax a little and the concentration goes, Harmison knew that and really roughed him up in that over, it was the preceding 3 balls that got him...
Still a long way to go for both sides.

Check out the inventory tracker in MR iPad forum for Best Buy, Target, etc.
I placed my order online at the Apple Store and have been waiting patiently for a April 20 delivery. Yesterday I checked the inventory tracker and it turned out my local Best Buy had stock on the 16GB WiFi black, just as I ordered it from Apple. Literally 15 minutes later I was up and running with my new gear & cancelled my Apple store order. No waiting in line or wasting any more time with the whole process. Why wait if you can grab it locally?
I'll have to check this out... I can't find one here locally anywhere and the people at the counters have no clue when stock is coming again. Best I got was check back or take a look at the shinny new Xooms in stock! :p

I don't notice anything wrong with Expose
10.6 puts everything into a grid of equal-sized windows, which makes it very difficult to select anything quickly since everything looks so similar and window positions aren't where I expect them to be. The correct behavior is that windows retain their relative sizes and positions. I can't imagine what possessed them to take something which worked perfectly and destroy its usability to such a large extent.
