Appleinsider reports (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2016) that Apple is ready to introduce the iTunes Movie Store at the upcoming September 12th Media Event.

They expect that Jobs will announce that movies from at least one major studio will be available at $9.99/download with additional studies following. Appleinsider, however, also claims that Apple has been working on their next killer device. Instead of a video iPod device to drive movie sales, they believe a video streaming device is in the works:

I don't know if i can. Give me some time. But doesn't it make sense that if u stop using something that killed disease spreading insects that the insects will continue to spread the disease?

    Repelling bugs with Grapefruit (http://www.npr.org/2011/04/18/135468567/repelling-bugs-with-the-essence-of-grapefruit)

    Safe Enough To Drink

That's why the CDC is pushing hard to develop a completely natural insect repellent made from a chemical called nootkatone, which is found in Alaska yellow cedar trees and citrus fruit.

Dolan says nootkatone "is nongreasy, dries very quickly, and it has a very pleasant, citrus-y grapefruit odor to it."

He recently demonstrated its effectiveness as a mosquito repellent, rubbing some on his hand and then sticking it into a cage containing 50 hungry mosquitoes. When he holds the treated hand near mosquitoes, they try to get away in the opposite direction as fast as they can.

Even after five minutes, Dolan has no bites on his nootkatone-treated hand.

Nootkatone is also effective against ticks, and scientists think it will work against bed bugs, head lice and other insects, too.

Moreover, nootkatone is so nontoxic you could drink it. In fact, it's already an approved food additive, officially classed as "Generally Considered Safe." It's also a natural ingredient in some foods.

The US became great, not because it relied on old ways of doing things, but because it created new ways that were more efficient.

Malaria has been a big problem for decades and you want to know why? Because it affects mostly poor Africans, people who don't have megabucks to pay for exotic cures. Now I realize that the chemical producers of the world would rather that everyone take their word as gospel and pretend that the harmful effects of DDT, BPA, Benzene, Formaldehyde, PVC amongst others are highly overblown and that if we just believe in the chemical companies and their shills, we'lll be living some sort of magical 50s sort of life.

If you'll read the article, you'll notice that the CDC owns the patents for nootkatone. Business is only interested in helping people when it fattens their bottom line. As a result, when it comes to things like malaria, it often takes government intervention to jump start issues.

So what do you want? A nation that always strives for the best solution or one that is only interested in getting by as long as it makes them money? It doesn't take a genius to see that by constantly supporting outdated technology, the US will soon be left behind.

Once again, what kind of world do you want to live in?

....but can't find anywhere hard evidence for September 12. Macbidouille is referencing conformation from sources, but don't have a date. Hardmac has a copy of a meeting invite for the 19th. So, will there be a September 12 meeting? I really hope so, as I will be in Vegas that day, and don't mind to pick up some stuff at the Apple store. :)

Rather than a RAID, what they need is a foolproof NAS (Network-attached storage). A NAS is basically a special purpose computer that has a network port (wired/wireless) as well as internal/external storage through USB/SATA/eSATA. For example D-Link makes a NAS that is compatible with uPnP as well as Bonjour. This box has space for an internal hard drive (ATA) as well as USB2 for external HDs. It has 802.11g wireless as well as ethernet port. You just connect is as another network device in your home and then you can dump your media into it from your PC/Mac. So, for people with laptops, you can buy your media or RIP them into the NAS and then iTV can use it. This can work well for people with laptops. iTV should be able to work off of a NAS rather than a PC/Mac.

The current versions of NAS may not be foolproof (Apple quality standards) and therefore this is a companion product that Apple could produce for home media storage. Another advantage of the NAS is that it can be near where iTV is rather than the computer since the bandwidth requirements for iTV are more important than for the computer. You don't want glitches while playing back media. So, you could live with downloading the media from online into NAS directly (through a slower wireless connection). Then have the NAS connected through wired ethernet to iTV.

    Hope this makes sense!!

Makes sense to me but you should be informing the other guy. :)

    Yes! Credit card is ready.

I kind of wish they made a 24" model, but it's very unlikely. Because it would have a smaller pixel density than last year's 21.5" model.
Unless they can somehow source some 24" LCDs with very weird resolutions that slot between 1920x1080 and 2560x1440.

Pretty weak update to the "flagship" pod. I bought a nano last month (glad I did, hate the colours, and wouldn't feel happy about paying 100 more just to get it in black). I'll assume black nanos/vpods have been booming so they thought they'd slap a premium on it this time, bit harsh really.

The software update is, well, a software update. They could have rolled that out anytime over the last year but it always bodes well with a new 'product'. Also all the talk on battery life, I suspect that has nothing to do with a different or better battery but rather Apples default settings on brightness/volume. I find everytime I play my ipod on Apples default volume setting, I get more or less what's said on the tin. Shame it's too quiet for the London Transport System (tubes/trains) to listen to so I'm forced to turn it up and lose a few hours. I suspect the default brightness level will be lower than what it was initially which has resulted in the increase in life.

I do want an vPod, and around the 60/80GB mark (30 -> 80 jump is crazy?!), but not with that size screen. I'll wait till it's in wide, and then tune into Lost/24 on the commute so I can actually see what's going on. Plus I'm sure they should be getting slimmer these days... Steves year of HD really isn't working out like I thought...

So previous iMac design lasted 4 years...it's been 3. Previous MBP design lasted, what, 6 years? Rumors are meaningless until we see leaked shots or something (remember the iPad 2 rumors?)

I don't think that overhauling the exterior of iMac or MBP is high on Apple's priority list at the moment and I'd be surprised if it happened within the next year.

    Yes I did milo.And it's a fine rendition :)

Only thing is one still has to connect some kind of A/V cables to the TV..

    Think about that concept.

I'll think about it. I think it's covered by "video to tv via dvi>hdmi cable for hdtv or analogue connection for sdtv". Which you obviously missed?

Try looking at the pic again. And read the stuff. All of it.

Sandy Bridge Xeon's are due in November.

I wouldn't be surprised if the iMac and new Mac mini are the replacement for the Mac Pro.

With Thunderbolt, you will be able to connect the new iMac or Mac mini of them to Fibre Channel arrays, have three displays or use external PCI chassis for existing PCIe cards. iMac CPU performance with the desktop Sandy Bridge CPUs will exceed most Mac Pro configurations. The new iMac's ability to use 32GB of RAM matches the Mac Pro too. You can configure the iMac using SSDs for less than the price of the Mac Pro too.

By the time November comes around, Thunderbolt may cause the death of the Mac Pro.

I've been thinking something similar to this since the initial Lightpeak rumors. External is the way to go.

However, that won't solve the problem of lacking workstation class video, processors and things like ECC RAM.

I am constantly amazed at the number of people who buy into this crap!

Here, I'll try to spell it out for you:
Apple has no antivirus for IOS because it would be completely useless. In order for a virus to get through to an IOS device it has to get past Apple's reviewers. That's the only way to install software of any kind on IOS, including malware.

    Safari!

    Well, since the iMacs and Mac Minis are running Core 2 Duo now, what do you think of this;

    Sales review
Chit-chat about iMacs with Core 2 Duo
^ Leads into the announced ment of Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros (Maybe MacBook aswell)
     New iPod

    One More Thing...
    iTunes with Movies.

Seems reasonable and doable. It sounds perfect for like a 1 hour event.

    Opinoins?

If it was a surprise, maybe. Since there'll be no-one there who isn't impatiently waiting for Apple to announce the video store, Jobs isn't going to create false suspense. Maybe he'll start with the pleasantries about how great Apple is, marketshare rah rah, then introduce the Movie store and provide the basic details... THEN unleash the real point, the device to plug stuff into your TV. They can work in the new MBPs/MBs as part of the whole glorious iLife spiel, or something.

Hey I'm satisfied with my carrier. I think the last time I had any problems with coverage was back in the 20th century. I've got coverage even in the freaking underground. I'd have coverage in the middle of wilderness if I chose to go there. It's cheap as well, I never pay incoming calls, my phone has never been locked and it works pretty much all over the world, my operator has had packet data connection most of this century as well and 3g for several years. What more could I wish?

I guess you are a lucky dude!

I stopped at the Apple store this morning and tried out the 24 inch iMac and the Mac Pro. These are sweet machines. No did not buy anything.

Is the 24" as quiet as the MacPro? Have you been able to compare to the 20"?

As others have mentioned, the security guard (again, most likely an off-duty cop or a cop who has retired early) would not have been deliberately attempting for a headshot, unless the head was the only thing sticking up from cover.

I shoot IDPA. It's not real life shooting, but a lot of the rules are designed to simulate real life as close as any competition could do. In the heat of an adrenaline rush, it is very easy to aim the gun for the chest and hit the head. For most people, that's a less than 5% change in gun angle, which for most pistols is less than 1/2" up. That is, he was aiming for the chest, and let the tip of his barrel rise less than 1/2" higher than it should go. Maybe Horatio Caine can stand with bullets flying and kill 5 people with 5 shots, but that's not real life.

I don't know the facts, but here's a reasonable supposition:
    * Mall guard sees multiple people with weapons in hand. In most states, the guard is now in a position where he can use deadly force to repel an attack. If the guard sees guns (again in some states), he is allowed to draw first, because they are the initiators of the lethal threat.
    * Criminals decide that they don't want a witness, don't want to be detained, etc. One or more draw their weapons. The guard is now in honest fear of his life, and may respond as needed to end their threat.
    * The guard shoots at them, until they retreat.

This is a good thing in my opinion, better for the environment, and technology is taking us in directions that we not have been able to imagine years ago.

I pity the children of the future when I think back to how I am my friends used to swap Video's, CD's and Computer games with each other, as we only had enough Birthday/Christmas money to afford to buy so much, so we had great fun and enjoyment swapping what we had between friends.

In the same way my elderly mother goes to her weekly meeting and they all bring books they have read in, so others can read their books when they have finished with them. Not everyone can afford to buy new every time.

More and more devices come with "non replaceable" batteries, and it's often because this allows for more design flexibility. If your device uses a standard, "off the shelf" rechargeable battery pack, you're limited to certain dimensions for the battery compartment. Newer battery packs can be custom molded into all sorts of odd shapes - and that allows for making thinner or more "shapely" products. However, it also means they'd have to sell MANY more varieties of battery packs if they still made these oddballs "replaceable". Nobody would be able to locate the proper battery when it came time to do a replacement anyway.....

Realistically though, almost any consumer electronics device I've seen has *some* way to open it up. And assuming the internal battery works for at least 2 or 3 years, it's not unreasonable to say "Hey... you still want to keep this device going for another 2-3 years? Ok... go to some extra effort prying it open once and do a battery swap with a custom replacement battery." That's what you're looking at on an iPod. After 5 or 6 years, are you REALLY going to keep using the same product anyway? If so, ok ... you have to hassle with prying it open 2 times in the lifespan of the product then. Doesn't sound horrible to me.

They do build in obsolescence into the ipod as you can't replace the battery (easily). It does become a disposable item, although a pricey one at that. I do love the ipod (even though I don't own one) but this puts me off to the point where I just can't go through with actually buying one. My experience with rechargeable batteries in mobile phones and lap top isn't good.

Dude... That has to be the most racist thing I have ever read!

Evolved???? And comparing humans to natural selection of animals????

I don't see the point of your incredulity (come on man using 4 question marks twice in one post. That's totally flagrant).

We aren't any different. Social interaction is just another aspect of biological evolution. It all breaks down to reactions between atoms and there's nothing racist about it. Are you going to tell me that the evolution of animals doesn't depend on their social interactions?
