I lost my iphone a week ago, so I am really, really hoping for an iphone update. I got a blackjack to tide me over until the release of the next iphone, and I already can't stand it after only one week.
I'm hoping for the new iphone to include 16gb, 3g (although edge wasn't bad at all) and gps. I'm thinking that with google's new psuedo-gps that may be included with the software update, that true GPS isn't high on Apple's list of things to update. But I tried the google program on my blackjack and it's terrible. I'm not even inside the circle that it says I'm in (having just used my phone, so it should be able to locate me pretty accurately). I want real GPS that I can use for navigation. I don't care about knowing that I'm within one mile of some point. FYI I'm in Chicago, so not like we're talking about BFE.
I don't know why people think SSDs are going to be an update. I totally don't think that SSDs will be included in Apple products (apart from iphone and ipods) for a long time. Apple's markets are: 1) consumers - where the price of SSDs is still way too high. Plus, you can't load too many home pictures and movies onto a $1,500 64GB SSD anyway. and 2) professionals - mainly working in, film, photography, web design, etc. These guys all require large hard drives. They probably do have large NASs at home, but they may need more space on the road too. I just don't see Apple's markets clamouring for SSD until it becomes both much cheaper and much larger sizes.

AMD does not have the ability to produce enough chips. Period. They have sold their soul to Dell, and Dell will suck them bone dry.

From the article ...
After passage in the Democratic-controlled Assembly and singing by Gov. Jerry Brown, both of which seem likely, California would become the first state to make curricula include notable gay Americans along with the contributions of women and various ethnic groups.
Shaun Travers, a San Diego activist, told San Diego 6: "It's very important that we represent all of California and that includes the LGBT community. Our people and our history."
But opponents said the move would add non-essential material to already-short instruction time.
Hmmm ... they don't seem to share that same concern when it comes to teaching Creationism in science class.

This app is nothing more/less than an ad for Apple's ad network.
My head may implode.
No kidding. Ridiculous.

Any chance we could have a App to showcase all the best Flash Banner adverts?
Oh no, hang on a minute... ;-)

So? How exactly will this affect you personally? Sounds like an imaginary demon. What exactly is your fear? Will some harm come to you?
Why does it need to be encrypted? For what purpose?
Ok. But for what purpose? To what end?
What exactly do you think will be done with that information? Will you be tracked and abducted? What will be done with information that showed you were like 10km near your local Target outlet? Is this critical, private information about you?
From what I can piece together (sometimes your grammar is shockingly bad), you're saying Apple is less up-front about collecting (*allegedly*) information that is otherwise harmless.
And here I am thinking this was something actually worth worrying about.
Targeted, personalized advertising. LOL. BIG FRIGGIN CONCERN!!
I see that you truly are worshiping Apple there.
You bashed Google Buzz on their stuff there but turn around and find this completely ok.
There is another thread I sited a long list of examples of issues with it.
But clearly you already have sold your soul to Apple.

Little over an hour south of Sydney.
Looks like I'm slowing the thread down a bit. Good, people need to stop and have a breath for a second.

I hate to add to this whole tiresome "debate" but it does amuse me how a video of an iPhone 4 losing signal is proof *positive* of a design flaw whereas a similar video of a different smartphone is no proof at all!
I have an iPhone 4, its the best phone I have ever had and by a mile! I'm happy with it and frankly I'm pretty much sick and tired of folks telling me I'm mad or stupid for saying so!

Yes there does seem to be a double standard when it comes to online video credibility.

When I was on Verizon, I could drive from Silicon Valley down to LA and not get dropped once.
Now that I'm on AT&T, on my 40 mile drive home on the 101 from downtown LA to the West Valley, I regularly get dropped 2 to 3 times - usually at the Lankershim and Winnetka exits.
It is what it is

Everyone is harping on the MacBook Air because of it's lack of ports or an optical drive, but at the end of the day people are still going to want to buy it. It's a nice product.
I think its very reasonably priced by the way - compare that to other machines in the class.

To software, AMD and Intel are compatable parts. They aren't identical, but most software won't care at all. So this wouldn't be a "switch" like IBM to x86. Nothing disruptive.
The question is, of course, where is the lower-power AMD cpu. Tulatins are not _bad_ chips for power efficiency, but they're certainly bested by core 2 duo. The lack of any strong competition makes this rumour just that.

- iPod bug fixes
Hopefully fixes the bug when album artwork doesn't show on the lock screen. It's not a critical bug, just kinda annoying.
At least apple admitted for the first time ever that they have a bug, i guess they mean BUG as in eavesdropping!

By the way - the apple uk store lists the 23" as 779 - yet earlier in this thread people were saying that the prices had not yet dropped..I was under the impression that 779 was the reduced price..is it going down further or are the wrong?

The macbook air's ship with 2gig standard. They wont leave a computer that new behind.
Or the new MacBook Air and all other Macs will move to 4GB standard.
You can use it with 2GB but it is not a very good experience, even with a just handful of Apps open.

These I'm missing:
1) No blu-ray
2) No eSata (with bootable + s.m.a.r.t.)
3) No hdcp+hdmi
4) Not breaking 8bit barrier with screens (16bit dvi, hdmi, udi or display port)
5) No 17" mbp with led backlight
6) No acd with hdcp/16bit dvi/hdmi/udi/display port
oh well, I was waiting for these also a year ago...
MBA seems to be quite cool, but display resolution is so low.
It has less hardware than MB, but higher price...
They crippled TM to work with APextreme + usb-drives and reason seems to sell TimeCapsules.
Btw, upgrading TC from 500GB to 1TB costs $200, upgrading MP's harddrive from 500GB to 1TB costs $300. Well, maybe MP's drives are not "server grade"...

a3 units get a bonus.
i'm still getting some bigadv units with my i7s
Excellent, how do I get a3 units?
I need the window close because my partner does not like the window open when she uses the computer cause she always has a lot of windows open (XP not 7). So at the moment I have a system tray ustilising one core. Its a dual core.
Thanks for the replies.

Apple's success is in large part driven by the ecosystem that they have built around iPod/iTunes/iPhone/iPad. Good luck to anyone breaking into that anytime soon. The day I can buy a song on Mac/PC, synch it to my Android phone, then stream it around my home to HiFi or TV then we will have a competitor. Apple knows it, the record companies and studios know it, someone needs to tell Google.

Two can play at that game. I still have the 400 shares I bought in 1997.
Do the math. :)
Damn! Can only wonder what it cost back then..those were dark days back then...

Interesting...there are 3 files called "MobileTestIPhone.html", "MobileTestIPhoneRetina.html", and MobileTestIPad.html with accompanying Javascript and CSS files in Safari's Resources folder:
Typing an address into the address field doesn't do anything but perhaps something is forthcoming.
The "missing plug-in" is "application/x-mobile-test"
In when Steve introduced the iPhone, he told us how "web applications" were going to be the future for the device. This is probably just a way to test those web applications you can write for iOS devices (the capability is still there, just not used very much in favor of native applications).

This is a great idea for those that would like this option. MR rocks as always!
Me though, I prefer the frequent frantic checks to the site as I try to get all my 'real work' done at the office.
One year everyone was going out to lunch and I lied and said I had too much work to do...just so I could eat at my desk and get all the late-breaking news. My co-workers would think I was weird if I said why I really wasn't going...
Yes, I'm a geek. :p
