Thats a big expense and a very big risk. I dont think so.
Apple has $15 Billion in Cash...and as a shareholder, (i'm not alone here) am a little upset that they're not doing anything with it. A billion or two won't kill them.
Remember that the iphone is the most profitable product line that apple has. I think that they will continue this trend into the other products, however in order to do so, you must build the infrastructure. Apple will either buy out a current player in the wireless sector, or will slowly deploy their own network, slowly integrating existing products into it... convergence.

They should have a funeral for the Classic, just like they did for OS9 (what is OS9?). This thing turned Apple around, and turned them into the cash carrying monster they are today.

Obviously companies build outside of the U.S. because it doesn't make financial sense to do so. U.S. labor is expensive in comparison to developing nations. Why is that so hard to understand?
Also if you look at the non-U.S. companies that have factories in the U.S. they are all in "right to work" states, so dealing with unions might be a factor too.
Same discussion all the time.
People that suggest to build plants in the US aren't doing their homework.
Made in USA doesn't mean the quality is better or worse, neither does it mean that Americans would be getting jobs because of it.
Some percentage, but not all!
Quality depends on the manufacturers controls.
Mercedes, Toyota etc. are all building quality products in the US.
There are not even enough workers with low assembly qualifications, so for a plant of that size the jobs would mostly go to immigrants, NOT Americans.
Then there is money a resource that is like a rare element gas. The slightest sign of trouble and it disappears and goes where there is no trouble.
Brazil will make no trouble, neither do other countries.
The government here is too fragmented in it's opinions to unite and pass laws that make production in the US worthwhile.
For that matter none of them have economic backgrounds and just preside over status quo, Republican or Liberal.
About 95% of all the tax money coming in is spent before it even hits and then some.
As the president's friend (an accountant) said in the movie DAVE:
If I would keep my books like they (the government) do , they'd throw me in jail.
It's an international world, intertwined by money.
So, enough with this buy American or MADE IN USA stuff. It's all about money and that will be made wherever it's FREE from too many taxes, restrictions and regulations.

WOW!!!! 8 megapixe?!!!!!!! i remember like 5 years ago when i bought a 200$ camera and it was 6 megapixels and it was considered amazing and here is the iphone with a 8!!! ITS CRAZZZYYY:confused:
for the basic consumer, ie the market for the iphone, a 6 MP camera is more than enough. Heck 4MP is probably more than enough.
Only professionals and serious prosumers need those crazy 18MP, 60fps rigs like a Canon 7D.
Now if you can tell me that that 8MP sensor also supports low light settings to help Joe Public get better shots of Joe Jr and Jane Jr, then okay I might buy it. But just based on the MP, I am not buying it. I still say it is possible that this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Be it, they aren't making anything for Apple or they are making a lower grade sensor and he merely assumed it was their highest
I am just tired of seeing people on here hoping for a mediocre upgrade... such as no design change and little speed bump...not referring to this thread in particular, but i see it in others..
I'm on a lot of boards and I've seen no one 'hoping' for a mediocre upgrade.
But I have seen a lot of folks smart enough to realize that the tech has plateau'd until there are useable LTE support and NFC support and thus it is likely that it will be a small upgrade this go around, just like from the 3g to the 3gs.
That's not 'hoping' that's just being realistic.
To me, this just feels like a slap in the face to ipad2 owners :(
Doesn't feel that way to me. perhaps because I have never seen the ipad as the beginning of the iOS release calendar, but the end. Which is also likely how Apple views it. It's always easier to go bigger than smaller so if you can get something to work in the iphone/touch, it's child's play to go up to the ipad. But fine tuning it first on the ipad doesn't equal cake in putting it in the iphone/touch.
Wooohooo hallelujah about friggin time it got a decent camera
the iphone has a 'decent' camera. Especially for the actual market, which isn't professional photographers but Daddy playing in the back yard with kiddies and wanting pics to send to Grandma.
Besides which, you could put a 18mp sensor in the phone and still have a crap camera if the controls, software etc suck.
Doesn't most of the internet use flash?
Nope. the main uses for Flash are games, ads and video playback. A few sites like movie and band sites will be full flash. But even before iOS came out many sites were dumping Flash due to accessibility concerns. When iOS came out, even more sites phased out Flash or created second 'mobile' sites that were Flash Free. when the Apps SDK came out, some of that group added apps as well or in place of the second site version.
Even the porn industry, long viewed as a touch stone for internet tech acceptance has openly been dropping Flash for HTML5 to increase their possible viewing.

Love the white iMac! I personally prefer the design wayy much more than the newer aluminum iMacs, even though the white models are slow as $%!& compared to the offerings of today.
Ooh, brainwave! I wonder if it's possible to transplant the guts of an aluminum iMac into a white iMac? I don't know how the screen interface differs between models, so it may require replacing the LCD, but it would make a fun project.
I've got a 20" iMac G5 here with 5 blown capacitors on the logic board and another four in the power supply. If I can't fix them, I may try that transplanting project.

Repair your permissions before and after each install. Mine did some correction to iTunes framework.
Agreed, good advice. Isn't a bit sad we have to do this on a 'cutting-edge' OS in 2006?!
Surely Mac OS X needs an installer that audits permissions on the fly?

Does anyone know if you can view the entire library still and use that "strip bar" across the top where you filter by music, tv shows, etc.....I kind of liked that...MAYBE I'll get used to the new way...but is there a way to make it go back to the old way?
EDIT
This might be premature and I might change my mind, but I dont like the new iTunes at all. It looks like FCP. I'm using it on my PC right now. Maybe the Mac will look better? It's overwhelming looking to me right now.

Over-the-air updates over the cellular network is a fine idea, but it's just not that important. That's not really a capability I value at all. Nice, but so what?
What Apple should have done a long time ago is made it possible to update and sync iDevices over WiFi. There is enough bandwidth on WiFi to do all of that just fine. And there is no technical reason it can't be done.
This. I could care less about wireless updating of iOS, it's not that frequent to be an issue. What I would like is to be able to sync up calendars, contacts, etc without having to plug into my iMac. What would really be nice is cloud syncing of my calendars (through iCal) but that would just be a plus.

Isn't it only a 30 drop - only done it so that it appears to be under a grand. Its not a significant drop - shame really, because its still so much more than the white one!
Any money off is welcome but yes it is just a cynical drop to create an apparently more attractive price point. However, they dropped the price and increase the ram and HD - if you want the colour you'll pay for it, simple as that (and apple know it)
You want it because you're weak!

I hope they brighten the interface a bit. I find it too dark. Also i hope some of the buttons become drop down buttons. It looks way more cluttered then FCP7.
all the improvements i have seen are major approvements. Even though this is an early demo. bravo, apple.
edit: or give us the advanced and regular version UI ;) all buttons that have shortcuts i dont see need for in the UI for an everyday user like me.
All of Apple's professional apps have the dark neutral color scheme so your eyes don't get thrown off because they are accustomed to other colors on the screen. Adobe also moved to this color scheme recently.

Just to clarify, there are TWO battery recalls, one from a while ago, and one announced today.
The one announced today is located here

The previous one is located here

Do not confuse the two!!!

perhaps the new ultra-portable will not need a power cord.
I remember a patent application from a while back . . .
True, I remember that. More reasons to hope for my new slim Macbook! yay!

Let's theorize: So why didn't they use the internal card?
Supposedly because apple said "please, please, pretty please dont"
Edit: Or maybe it was just an offer they couldnt refuse...

You don't make billions if no one is buying your product.
What if they don't have any choice but to buy your product? All of the Windows OEMs are instant customers for Vista, whether they like it or not. This is how the system works for Microsoft.

Nope. Probably not even close. The Air doesn't have the processors or graphics required for even the current version
