I've been given a database error after saving a few of my recent edits. It doesn't seem to have had any noticeable effects (the changes are still going through), but it might be worth looking into.

Hi all.I think i have a problem. When i bought my mini i could barely hear it but now things have changed. The things is that my fan is showing rpms about 1200-1500 which i think is normal, so i think it's the HDD. Is it possible even though it's 5400 rpm and apple hard drives are generally silent. Also when i put my head close to the mini i can hear some strange metal noise. I can't explain it but you know that HDDs have some things inside which are spinning. Other than that everything works normal which i find strange ... My mini is still under warranty so if i take it to my local store would they change it, even though the HDD is working .. well at least it's still not crashed.

Hi there,
does anyone know if it is possible to use a Black Macbook as a keyboard/trackpad for an iMac? The idea would be to use the iMac as the computer and the macbook just as a keyboard/trackpad and if possible as secondary screen [maybe too much to ask for...:)]
Thanks in advance!
Screen Sharing?

Hey,
So I got a new 11" MacBook Air with the ext. SuperDrive and am looking to install Windows 7 on it.
Fired up Boot Camp and downloaded the drivers... crawled along slowly but surely (looked like it would take ~1 hour to complete) and decided to take a quick shower while waiting.
15 minutes later I got back to the Mac and was surprised to see that it had completed the download already, and was prompting me to transfer it to some form of external media. Burned it to a CD-R, verification was OK and all seems well.
Just anal about things like this and I'd like to see if anyone could verify that the exact file size is '559,398,912 bytes' (559.4MB on disk)(this is on a CD, not a flash drive)? Just worried since the download seemed to have completed unusually quick, on my normally slow-as-molasses network (oh, and someone on another forum mentioned that the file was 562MB...)
I would get a MD5 hash but don't know any checksum checkers for Mac OS X.
Thanks!

Really gang?
Spend 20 seconds looking at MacRumors forums and you'll find dozens valueless, off-topics posts that don't get deleted. Please don't hide behind that.
Ha ha. I think I just got accused of being trollish for pointing out something that Arn says ought to be disclosed anyway. This is rich.

I've been developing websites since 1995, and prior to that was involved in multimedia, so, it was a natural progression for me.
Everyone has a creative dry spell now and then, and everyone has different methods for overcoming it. When it happens to me, I go on vacation. If that's not possible, I change my routine and try to put some distance between me and the creative problem I'm trying to solve. I just do something else, and then go back to the problem with "fresh eyes."
If you want a job in web development, my advice is to learn a web language like PHP or ASP. There's more demand and the pay is better. If you like the design side of the biz better, then specialize in a certain area like interface design or information design which large web development companies need. But, either way, it's always good to have some experience and skill in both the programming and design aspects of web development.
Sound advice, definitely learn both sides, freelance dynamic web programmers are back in demand again after the dot.com implosion, I started as a Print Designer and Graphic Artist, then worked my way up to Art Director, then our company moved our whole business model to the internet and e-commerce so I had to learn Web Design with HTML, CSS, and static webpage design.
Now I am going back again and having to learn not only XHTML and XML but dynamic programming like Java, Cold Fusion, PHP and ASP.
As a Web Production Manager now, I manage 6 web designers remotely via iChat, FTP and Email and in order to QC, make changes and revisions and optimize websites for Search Engines and Google page ranking, a working knowledge of the dynamic or server side aspects of websites nowdays is a MUST. I can't emphasize this enough.
Programming languages are the structure and backbone that websites use to communicate with each other on the WWW, knowing what language to communicate in in any culture is critical.

I got a refurb for my then 20 month old 3Gs about 3 weeks ago. It's a 5K.
It looks and feels new (nice to havea FRESH oleophobic screen!), but is slower than molasses with 4.3.2...
Mike
I thought the same thing after having my phone replaced earlier this week. The screen feels amazing! Does anyone know how long it takes before it fades off?

I myself have been pondering since last week too!
I'm thinking of going for the 1TB, eventually moving to a bigger hdd because with all the film & photography work I do, I'll fill it up in no time.
With the prices of SSDs expected to tumble pretty damn soon... I'm thinking of running a thunderbolt SSD.
Give it a couple months on SATA and see if you really do need the SSD... Not sure as to how installing OS on a thunderbolted SSD would go but as far as I know the biggest gain is in boot time which is pretty pathetic.

I wonder if Leo Laporte hired him at TWiT. On one of the shows the other day, he said they had a new employee coming in, but didn't say who it was.
Hmmm... I remember Leo saying he wanted a New York studio for a morning show on TWiT.
Engadget is based out of NYC if I'm not mistaken.
Improbable, but it would be cool.

Can a home directory exist on a firewire device?
Is the firewire device automounted at boot? Or only mounted once a user logs in? Something to think about..
Anyway, here's some more ways to move your /Users to another partition:

Darn right. I'm pretty happy. Sorry people, this amazing device is no longer for sale. Your chance at a good deal is over.
