Because iPod Classics use a standard 1.8" ATA-66 hard drive, they can be upgraded with the right tools. I recommend getting one now and upgrading the drive later if it gets too small.
What about the iPod OS? Isn't it on the hd, like the Nomad Jukebox of that time? I had one of those and it was easy, if expensive, to find hd larger than the original already formatted including the OS.

A Phat iPod Touch sounds like a great product to me. Integrate an iPad touch with limited flash storage and a iPad Hard Drive. Call it the Phat iPod Touch..
Hard drives would not be good AT ALL for an iPod Touch. Apps depend on the instant access that flash memory allows for using data, so a hard drive would slow the whole process up, especially on the processor size. Plus, moving objects are exactly why they moved to flash: too fragile and much easier to destroy. Nope, the hard drive based music player has seen its day in the sun and is now going off into the distance. It has a good run, but like the floppy before it (didn't flash memory also kill that too?), its just not good enough for today.

I hope Facebook will get someone else (or several people) to replace him.
I appreciate his work, and would like to see it continued despite a frustrating process.

If the movie store is announced on the 12th, I'm guessing the Aussie store will arrive some time in 2009 :) though maybe movies don't have as messed up distribution rights as music, but don't hold your breath.
I am not holding my breath, (i only have a ~3 breath anyway), if they have to talk to all of our movie corps, I don't like there chances...
But if there's anyone that can do it, Its Apple.

Movies purchased from the iTunes Store can't be burned to a DVD or VCD that will play in a DVD player or Video CD.
How is apple service different from Amazon?. Other than a pretty interface (last time i checked, pretty interfaces did not save me money or help pay the bills).. what's different?. Is the pricing different?.. are the restrictions different?.. why shouldn't I buy from amazon.. what happened to "when apple comes out with their service, they will kill amazon"??
Lame.

Yes but it does clearly state Core 2 Duo in the product name and the release date of 13th November, they could have just copied the spec of the existing one as they are unsure of the new spec. What is telling is the date, they obviously expect it to happen on the 13th
 that wasn't the point

Regardless of the current state of 3D display technology (i.e. terrible), the future will most likely be in 3D. Maybe Apple will be the first to get 3D right, like how they were the first to get the mp3 player, smartphone, and tablet right! You've got to admit, they've proven the general populace on these forums wrong many times.
Obviously, "getting it right" would mean the following:
1. No stupid accessories (glasses, lights on your head etc.)
2. Minimal headache complaints
3. Same, if not better, resolution as the current iPad.. but in 3D
4. Actually adds a whole lot to the user experience
5. POSSIBLY, allowing multiple people to see "3D" from different angles
If they do "get it right", maybe we'll see Apple making 3D TVs. Who knows. They have gone from a computer company to a personal electronics company over the last decade.

I'd bet a large part of the negotiations are how the OTA updates would be billed. Apple wants the OTA update transparent and free for metered internet plans. Verizon wants money for each OTA update.

and yet another from this weekend's visit to Loreto ...

Cool shot! I loved that place when I visited 5 years ago, and your photo instantly took me back to the sunrises there... I'll try to dig up one or two of my old shots and post them, too.

Seems like I recognize that place... even some of the boats... ;) Post more, if you have any. I'm always keen to see someone else's interpretation of a familiar place (at least to me...)
Nice dog shot. I really like the bokeh and the dog's expression.
Cheers. Thanks. She's a very expressive dog, besides being as weird as they come from a feral Baja genepool.
Okay, I posted this just to balance out the dog photo. ;)

I wonder if anyone payed 1.29 for revolution number nine.
If so, I'm sure it was only by accident. :p
Casual Beatles fans won't know that several of the big hits -- like that ripping version of "Revolution" -- were only originally released as singles, then on the odd compilation album (Hey Jude, then later on the Blue Album, and finally Past Masters).

Anyone tell me what good is a 64-bit processor other than being able to address more RAM. I know a 64-bit address bus alone doesn't make a 64-bit processor.
Not a lot of difference at the moment is the short answer. Usually the benefit of 64 bit chips is that they also come wwith more registers or bigger caches, or more fucntional units etc etc which is where the performance increase is.
I also heard these are not "true" 64-bit processors, just the same old x86 processors w/ 64-bitty goodness added on. Any truth to this?
You're a died in the wool macophile right? :D These C2D (the real Core architecture, the CD was a beefed up pentium M) are pretty highly developed chips with some very nice features. Go and read arstechnica.com you'll be impressed.

It was judged to be a hoax, just like all the MBP rumors so far.
Are they all really a hoax? Or is Apple covering up true rumors....? Hmmm

Anyone see the Magic Touchpad released without explanation? just wait.
It's no Wacom Tablet
This was only a speed bump. I believe Apple will release Touch Macs (already Apple Inc.) as an additional product line along side standard Macs, to ease the transition.
There will always be keyboards, for keyboard shortcuts if not the obvious bulk text entry. Half the work done by pro-applications (not just Apple's) is done with keyboard shortcuts. It's the mouse that's done for. Apple finally perfect the mouse, and they kill it.
I think the Magic Mouse is transitory too. To get people used to using touch on the desktop.

Nice update for those who want an iMac. Decent bump for the Mac mini too..
I'm sure the MBP will be updated soon and possibly the MB..
Like many others, I'm waiting for something more powerful and expandable than a Mac mini, but not as expensive as a Mac Pro and does not have an integrated LCD like an iMac (I have a 24" Dell already).
Something like:
1.83 Ghz Core Duo 2 (Conroe)
512 gig Ram (4 memory slots)
160Gig 3.5" SATA Drive (and one additonal empty bay)
Dual Layer Superdrive
PCIe Video Card (ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300GT)
1 additional PCI slot
Bluetooth/Airport
in something like a mini-tower case (about 2/3 size of Mac Pro)
Starting about what the iMac starts at ($1199)... With a more loaded one
2.16Ghz, 1Gig Ram, 250Gig HD, better video (say 7600GT) going up to $1599 or so...
Crossing my fingers for the 12th!

I guess if her main criteria for car choice is killing people in small cars then she has picked the right car.
Yep. Hear it all the time. "Protect my family", "Keep my family safe". In other words, kill the other party so that your offspring may live. The attitude needs to change. Yugo's for everyone.

It would be cool if they allowed made a touch screen iMac and allowed you to run your iOS apps in OS, like with the simulator included in iPhone SDK.
But if OSX and iOS merge, I am leaving apple forever. That would be suicide.

Like the apple store?
Lol, Joking....The Apple store, while certainly a "neat" place, has never been an all-around pleasant experience for me. The place is constantly packed to the brim with people
+1
While I like going to the Apple store, I don't think I will ever buy another computer there. I bought my MBP there because I needed to see the anti-glare screen beside the glossy screen.
But for a while, it seemed like I was destined to be extremely wealthy because the ivisibility cloak I designed was working to a T. I was completely invisible to anyone who was able to sell me something.
My next iMac will be bought online and shipped to me. Now if the would find a way to put you in a queue so you knew you would helped before the person that walked in the store 30 seconds ago, then maybe I would go back, but not until.

Maybe it's time to upgrade the screen size to get more under the hood (and stick the antenna back in there).
Precisely.
I hope they widen it by 2mm so there's room for a modest bezel, instead of that ultra thin example seen a short while ago. There's got to be a little room for a case to overlap the front edges a bit.
If they put the antenna back inside, then the case edges can be shaped for style and comfort. The iPhone 4's edges are just too plain looking. Other than proving they could make a fragile glass phone, it's a pain to hold securely if you're active.
I truly believe this could be a significant upgrade over the 4 if Apples willing to put out the effort.
Just look at the terrific job they did with the new MBA's. If they put the same effort into the next iPhone it will be an incredible model that will get lots of positive press.
