I had one dead pixel on my old Sony Vaio which was stuck bright and it was really annoying, even on a 1024x768 11" screen. That one doesn't seem nearly as bad.
Apple is not going to replace it with one bad pixel...

As much as the sarcasm was welcomed - he did ask for just the screen portion. I.E - without the stand. So that "really helpful website" wasn't too helpful.

any idea if i can use the apple logo, or can copy stuff off their site? their diagrams? its all academic, and will probably promote apple rather than anything else.
My guess is that it shouldn't be a problem, as long as you're not doing it for profit.

I'm also on the fence about ordering my imac with or without the ssd option.
(forgive my lack of computer knowledge here....): I understand in basic terms, that having the OS and Apps installed on the ssd has many advantages over hhd, such as allowing the imac to boot up the OS and apps faster.
Question:
Lets take the iPhoto app as an example . . . If iPhoto is installed onto the ssd, it should/will launch the app faster than if it was installed onto the hdd - okay, I get that.
Now, once iPhoto has opened/launched, will it operate any faster or smoother if iPhoto is installed on a ssd vs. if it was on a hdd?

There is really no point in continuing to have an argument over what is essentially the semantic difference between a virus and a piece of malware.
Tell your friend it's not worth arguing about.

I run a business. I send Excel files to customers. I **need** the files to be perfect, no voodoo at all, no weirdness with fonts or file conversion or print area. If it's even slightly voodoo-istic, I will not be able to use it since almost everything I do with Excel is loaded by my customers on a PC.
To be honest, I think the only way to achieve 100% Excel compatibility is to, well, use Excel.
I mean for ordinary personal stuff I'm sure cross-compatibility will be no problem. But if you are running a business in which you are constantly sending and receiving Excel files, I'd probably just bite the bullet and continue to use Excel.
It may be somewhat easier to achieve good results with Excel than Word though, since spreadsheets typically are less focused on style and formatting.

Just curious.
- Internal HDD/SSD. By overwriting my previous OS (can be clean install or upgrade). (e.g. Snow Leopard)
- Internal HDD/SSD. By making a new partition and installing it there.
- External HDD/SSD. Erased HDD and just installed it.
- External HDD/SSD. Repartitioned to not lose any data and installed on a new partition.
- USB-stick/SD-card.

I'm looking to buy my second. If the 'je ne sais quoi' of the iMac has got you interested, you'll probably love it.
I think they're great. As for a score...? I'll give it a 9. In terms of how it meets my needs.

EveryMac.com lists the estimated current cost at $1200-1400
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac_1.25_17_fp.html
I would be happy at $1000
EveryMac is usually a bit high.
heres a couple that are close to yours.

I'm pretty good programming in PHP and Javascript, but now I need something that allows me to create simple desktop apps. Mostly it will be for automation scripts, too much for Apple Script, but not complex enough to jump into Cocoa and Objective-C. Examples: Manipulating text files (sorting, dupe line checking, adding/cutting parts, splitting/combining files etc.), uploading a file to several different FTP servers, sending POST requests to a server.
I often hear Pearl and Python mentioned and I believe they are pre-installed on the Mac, but I don't know much about them. What's the main difference? Which one (or something else?) would be best suited for these tasks? Which one is easier to learn?
Bonus: What's a good site to learn for someone who has general programming knowledge, but is a total noob with those languages?

i know someone who just purchased a dual ghz box with 2 GB of ram. The extra .25 mhz isn't worth it becuase it is bottlenecked anyways by it's slow-assed system bus. The ram on the otherhand, is great for the after affects, FCP and photoshop work hes doing.

Pretty cocky...I wouldn't hire him/her either :)
Once was fine...but twice?
Um, no, I don't want to work with a pedantic fool like you every day, thanks.
I should mail him back and remind him to tuck his period inside the parentheses.

I finally got to it last night. Thanks for the advice guys. I took off the keyboard and trackpad piece, took off the left speaker assembly, and then the airport card cage, and my airport extreme card was underneath it. I took it out and found some pretty nasty corrosion on it. Put it back together, booted up.
She works!!!!!!!!!!!:D
For those who didn't catch it, I found my powerbook in a puddle of water one morning on my desk.:( Someone I know had an Ibook that would turn on like mine did but not boot up when his airport card wasnt in perfectly, so he said I should try taking the card out. It works! The keyboard on the other hand is fried. I need a new one.:o
