A little more from the La Monde Diplomatique article (http://mondediplo.com/2008/02/05military) ...
Higher spending, fewer jobs
On 1 May the Center for Economic and Policy Research of Washington, DC, released a study prepared by the economic and political forecasting company Global Insight on the long-term economic impact of increased military spending. Guided by economist Dean Baker, this research showed that, after an initial demand stimulus, by about the sixth year the effect of increased military spending turns negative. The US economy has had to cope with growing defence spending for more than 60 years. Baker found that, after 10 years of higher defence spending, there would be 464,000 fewer jobs than in a scenario that involved lower defence spending.
Baker concluded: “It is often believed that wars and military spending increases are good for the economy. In fact, most economic models show that military spending diverts resources from productive uses, such as consumption and investment, and ultimately slows economic growth and reduces employment”.

So do we keep waiting for updated Macbooks and Macbook Pro's or not?
I dont see the MacBook going core 2 duo, but i reckon the MBP will, maybe with a new case design on the 12th?

Sounds very revolutionary to me.
hey - heres an idea Apple - rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?
or are you really aiming to become a glorified consumer gimmicks firm?
uhhh, yes!

but the compromised code is most likely not Apple's at least.
I concur. They simply chose a Mac to be a cock. How's that for smugness?
So what happens when the owner of the MacBook closes the computer?
Exploit defeated. :)

LOL! That's precisely why the "limited supply" iPad2 launch was such a fiasco. You impulse buyers couldn't pull the trigger. Seriously... were this any other company other than Apple at least top 3 execs would have had their asses thrown out the door.
As an aside... my local Wal-Mart has had iPad2's for 2 weeks now. I've been there at least 3 times a week and they're always in stock.
The board that oversees what the top 3 executives do at Apple knows more than you about production issues of MILLIONS of hi-tech devices.
Anybody familiar with production and distribution issues knows that despite excellent planning there may be issues during production that cannot be forecast.
Selling and shipping MILLIONS in a few weeks is a exactly fiasco for whom?

Just remembering the iMac Dock patent - the dock communicated with the notebook wirelessly. I suspect this is what the "Something's in the Air" posters are about. Imagine if the new ultra-thin Notebook has no cables at all - doesn't even have any sockets - maybe not even power socket or USB. It charges through contact conduction, and talks to the dock & optical drive via WiFi or some proprietary wireless protocol design for this purpose.
By eliminating all connectors, and the associated electronics, they can probably make a notebook thinner than anyone has ever seen before.

I used to work at RS and really it was pretty good place to work. It was commission but I always made around $10 or so an hour. Yeah, it maybe overpriced but generally the employees are more intelligent then BB employees and way better then WM employees.
Walmart is way worse the RS.

Cons...
#1 Movies 640 by 480? No widescreen or animorphic? forget that! I haven't bought a 4x3 movie since 1998
Are you sure they aren't anamorphic? I want to find this out.
Even an anamorphic DVD is still a 4:3 file. It just stretches it out. And Quicktime does support non-square pixels.

That's hilarious. I needed that to clean off the rotten day I had. At least my day wasn't ruined by anything from Apple.

Apple needs to step up to the plate with ios5. The iPhone as it is, is good enough for most punters. Tweaking the hardware won't make a huge difference. Ipad2 a perfect example, nice upgrade but not essential. iOS is beginning to look a little dated and needs a major update rather than a few tweaks

Not sure yet,
But it looks like we may need to convert videos before we can place them onto our ipod from iTunes.
I just encoded a video using Quicktime Version 7.1.5 (available now via software update). Even after doing that, it appears that I have the option to encode it for iPod  .
::EDIT::
This feature is to encode videos dragged into iTunes, for your ipod.
Meaning. If you are able to drag a movie into iTunes and play it, you can now encode it to play on your Video iPod within iTunes!!

Or if they do make it some outrageous price above that for the 23" iMac, might as well throw in a blu-ray drive right? ;) But that's probably still a ways off seeing how much external drives cost currently, probably more a MacWorld '07 announcement.

I know many people who've had iPod hard drives crap out on them. I don't know anyone who has an iPhone or Touch who has actually cracked their screen.
My experience is exactly the opposite of yours. :)

I like a challange but I got frustrated last night when i had to restart the whole level because i eneded up facing off with a couple of those smaller covinant tanks with one rocket and an assault rifle and the check point screwed me.
Also I gotta say the AI is vastly improved but only on the enemy side. Why are my squadmates such mororns?!

I'm hoping the FaceTime bugs are addressed. On the iPhone 4 and iPad 2, I get the cached image or black screen instead of live camera. A restart fixes it in case you experience it.

"However, this does not mean these other applications are dead - simply that Apple is not talking about them... yet."
So maybe this explains the low price point. $299 for Final Cut Pro X and $999 for the full suite? I hope not. All looks amazing though!
Apple won't sell a suite (there are no suites in the App Store). Look at iWork - just individual apps for purchase. They'll probably charge $299 for FCP and $99/each for the other apps, or have it all rolled up into Final Cut Pro.
