Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be another device like the Apple hi-fi. What a let down that was!
So we will get movie service from iTunes, a new iPOD NANO with a metal scratchproof case, a new Airport extreme with Audio and Video OUT... no hi-def for sure... and a bump in processor speed for the whole line.
Am I really leaving anything out?
We'll see next week. The hype always just creates this big let down for me. Hopefully my negative attitude will bring me happiness, regardless of what is presented.

I was wondering why so many people are so opposed to Apple offering Blu-Ray as a BTO option. I have read where Steve Jobs spoke negatively about Blu-Ray, I wonder if these same people would be all gung-ho for BR if Jobs had spoken positively about it? I realize that he is a very smart man, but he isn't God!
You wonder correctly. The best example is a lot of people on here absolutely hated the new iPhone 4 design when it was originally leaked. Hoards of people rushed on to post it was ugly, it was not something Apple would ever design, and there was no way the new iPhone would like those leaked pictures. The moment Apple confirmed that was the new iPhone 4 it suddenly became the most gorgeous mobile handset on god's earth, and these people all wanted to rush out and buy one. Pretty scary really. :)
I always thought that BR would have been a great thing to have on a Mac for things like backing up your iTunes library. Imagine that, being able to back up your entire iTunes library on two or three BR discs. That would have been really nice. I read somewhere the other day that they either have or are getting ready to have BR discs that have a 100GB capacity. What in the world would have been wrong with that?
I have BR on my Windows PC and I honestly *never* use it. I did buy some blank BR media a couple years ago and those discs are still gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere. I'm far happier storing my backups on hard drives and rotating them offsite with members of the family. I wouldn't like to try and manage that with BR media. That said, I am aware backups are supposed to be stored on two different types of media as the golden rule. And BR would make for a good second type of backup media I guess. Personally I prefer the cloud storage option.

Please explain to me how a computer company would benefit from aquiring a camera company because I just don't see it.
Canon is far more than just a camera company, even tough that is their core business.
In the consumer area, their scanners and printers are usually quite decent.
However, I too just don't see the synergy.

How would Safari be able to install that stuff? Forgive me for not knowing, but I haven't seen anything that allowed you to install software, or any executable code, from iOS Safari. Not with Apple's model. Maybe jailbroken, but that's a different story.

Yes, but to the average consumer. These things aren't very important. They will be looking at Ghz, and Apple's "X times faster" looks at the processor. That is what Apple is marketing, not FSB.

If you're like me, you don't have your Mac right next to your TV. Not only would I have to string a DVI/HDMI cable aaaall the way across the room, I would also have to get an equally long digital audio cable. Probably end up costing about the same as a video AirPort Express (if they keep the prices the same) but with the added hassle of getting those cables across the room.
This would be a lot less expensive than buying a Mac mini, especially if you already have a powerful desktop just waiting to play some HD videos...
I see your point but I do not yet see HD over 802.11g. Maybe with some new codex and some decoding on the device, but I still don't think so. Come on Apple make a believer out of me.

Yeah, I hope when the new video iPods come out, storage capacity will be up'd as well. Honestly though, I've so many movies and tv shows on my 30gb video iPod right now, I don't think I'd need much more than a 60gb if I were to upgrade.
On my 30gb video iPod I've got stuff like all 3 of the LOTR Extended Edition movies, around 150 eps. of various Star Trek tv shows, about 30 Kids in Hall eps., all 3 Star Wars films, tons of music videos, a couple of Harry Potter movies, an anime flick, a bunch of Sealab shorts, some South Park eps. all of the Indiana Jones films, and a few more things. I still have over 7GB free for music as well.
Having an even bigger capacity drive on my iPod video--I'd go nuts. :)

The all new 15" Zacate notebook with an 18W CPU with a **** dispenser totally destroys the usefulness of a 15" MacBook Pro with a 45W CPU without a **** dispenser. The MacBook Pro needs a **** dispenser or else it looks bad.

Not trying to force this mentality on anyone, but for ME: No Ivy Bridge, no care.
I'm sure it'll be a great machine though just like the current one. It's just not enough difference to make me upgrade. (Just like iPad 1 to iPad 2)

Cmd-C = Copy
Cmd-V = Paste
Grab will snap a picture of a window, the entire screen etc. There is also print to PDF.
I'm pretty sure he was referring to cut and paste in finder and "windows snap" is where you can snap two windows side by side easily- it is a great feature in W7 and I hope Apple incorporate it in some way.

The goal was to reach the highest possible speed that was benchmark stable. Super Pi, 3DMarks, and several game benchmarks were run to test stability. The 2.93GHz chip reached 4.0GHz on air cooling in these overclocking tests. That represents a 36% overclock on air with what will likely be the least overclockable Core 2 processor - the top line X6800.
To provide some idea of overclocking abilities with other Core 2 Duo processors, we ran quick tests with E6700 (2.67GHz), and E6600 (2.4GHz). The test E6700 reached a stable 3.4GHz at default voltage and topped out at 3.9GHz with the Tuniq Cooler. The 2.4GHz E6600 turned out to be quite an overclocker in our tests. Even though it was hard-locked at a 9 multiplier it reached an amazing 4GHz in the overclocking tests. That represents a 67% overclock. Not that the locked chips aren't that bad either.

But wasnt Yonah supposed to come out in January this year, and Apple released the iMac early January. So tens of thousands of chips must have been shipping before the official release date, I dont see why the same couldn't be true of these new chips.Intel launched Yonah at CES on January 5, 2006. 5 days later Apple had it in the iMac. So it's entirely possible that Apple is sitting on a cache of Conroe and even Merom chips.

I'd love it to be unlocked too. But they'll probably make it GSM so i'll need to switch networks. Unless they're REALLY nice and make it GSM/CDMA like my Samsung A790 (about to be on my third of those- they have a knack for survival unless you hurl them onto concrete 5 feet below you as hard as you can throw them). I'd pay tons of money for that.
Hardware locked doesn't mean GSM or CDMA. That's about what the actual radio equipment is inside the phone. I'm talking about the programming done to the phone so it will only work with one provider's network. T-Mobile and Cingular both use GSM (T-Mobile: 1900mhz, Cingular: 850mhz mostly), but you can't just take one phone to the other even though most phones from both providers support both frequencies. You would have to apply a text command to the phone to allow that.
I recently had to replace my phone (which was locked to T-Mobile) because I lost it, and I got a Cingular-branded phone which was factory unlocked. I just put my T-Mobile SIM in and it works for voice. GPRS required a call to support, and it has boot and shutdown screens w/ the little orange guy on them, but for the most part it works fine.
I also hate carrier branding on handsets. Which is why I want Apple to sell it unlocked. If they partner with Cingular (given that's how the ROKR went) I'll have to 1) buy at a Cingular dealer, 2) find someone/thing to unlock it from Cingular's network, and 3) still have the dumb Cingular logo ON THE PHONE.

this is crazy....we as a society have become too politically correct. Someone breaks into your house and gets injured, he can sue you for injuries....you trip and fall on a slippery surface in a mall or restaurant, you can sue, despite the clear sign that says, "caution, slippery surface", Or the famous one, suing because your cup of coffee was hot and you spilled it on yourself. My goodness....Here we have a robbery attempt. The robbers were armed. Now this private security guard see's what is happening, and steps in to stop them. What is he suppose to do, pretend to be like Obama and try to open up negotiations with them? "please robbers, stop what you are doing, it is against the law?" Meanwhile, the robbers are shooting at him...So what if a robber got shot in the head. It is one less criminal to deal with. And what is to say that he was aiming for his head? It might have just been a lucky shot. Will he have to live with that? Of course, but at the end of the day, he was just doing his job. It would be like joining the military not expecting to ever go to war or see combat...
