The Magic Trackpad rules. Love it. Don't even use the mouse. It seems like you have to move the mouse so far to get it across the screen and with the Magic Trackpad its just gets you around the screen faster.
I guess it's great, except for 1 thing.
Gaming.

Wow, I have already replied to this one above, but below is his brother apparently.
So even though I have a MBP and not a PB I can probably get a new battery as well by changing the serial numbers despite what is really on my battery.
COOL!!!!!!!!!!
That's seriously not cool. For one, you're basically stealing someone else's replacement battery, since when they put in their number that happens to have a C instead of your B it's going to say they already sent the battery out. And second, when it comes time to return your defective battery don't you think they're going to notice it's entirely the wrong type?
Bad plan.

We're very used to using a mouse, but it's definitely not the most natural way to interact with a computer.
Voice commands are the most natural way to interact with a computer. But it does not work well.
Touch screens are more natural than the mouse and keyboard. But they too do not work as well.
I choose usability over "natural".

Yeah, I was with him up until this line:
I think that music faded in importance for a while, and the iPod has helped to bring music back into people's lives in a really meaningful way. Music is so deep within all of us, but it's easy to go for a day or a week or a month or a year without really listening to music. And the iPod has changed that for tens of millions of people, and that makes me really happy, because I think music is good for the soul.
Umm, yeah, the iPod brought music back into the limelight. Thanks Steve Jobs, in the 90s I was worried music would go away forever, even though it's existed since the dawn of man.

What are you a sloth? It sounds like you rarely use your Mac. Updates are pretty far in-between to be that lazy:confused:
It's ridiculous that iOS hasn't already had this enabled - having to crawl back to my Mac to update my phone or iPad is just a total pain....

LOL @ Apple AT&T fanboys VS Apple Verizon fanboys.
But seriously, Android has been updated OTA since its inception. Welcome to iPhone.
android updates are also not 600+mb in size
not saying that apple has to have you redownload the entire OS every time there is an update (presumably for stability purposes), but that is how they do it now, and 600+mb files are definitely a problem when you are talking about OTA.

who cares how much crap is?
Is that a general use of the term "crap?" As in "all that crap?" Or is it specific to Windows as crap?" As in, "Vista is a singular pile of crap, left on my lawn by the next door neighbor's dog." :D
Sorry, I just woke up.:o

Am about half-way through the game again on Legendary. Some parts are very tough, but it's always so rewarding when you get past them. The 'random' checkpoints are a bit of a pain, sometimes the game saves and you've only one bar of health and a few bullets. Grrrr.
What's this about datapads? I managed to get through the game on Heroic & half on Legendary without finding even one. Don't make me go through all that again!
I have to say I really liked the story; something about prequels like this that appeals to me. I liked the sad, inevitable tragic 'feel' of the planet falling to the Covenant. There were things I didn't like - it's a pity it didn't feature the first contact between humans and Covenant. I still don't understand why Halsey was kept in a glass cell. To be honest, I felt the missions felt a bit random too (maybe I was concentrating too hard on staying alive to take in the details), until I played through again. Really like it now.
I'd love to play through the series again, starting with Reach and then Halo, etc., but I've never tried playing Halo on a 360. Does it play/look ok?
I tried Halo Waypoint too. Interesting, tying the games together like that.

It would be very interesting to read Lord of the Rings and have the soundtrack playing - synchronised to where you're up to in the book. Or the book with excerpts from the movie.
Or pictures synchronized with an audiobook, or an ebook together with the preferred music from the author. This ads a whole new dimension to everything, Music, text, pictures and movies can all be combined into 1 work of art.

According to the Wikipedia article, a Home Basic upgrade is only $99.95, which is cheaper than the standard $129 for OS X releases. Then again, education customers can often get Mac OS for around $70 in some cases, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if there will be education discounts for Vista or how much they will be. With so many versions and price points for Vista and an unknown price tag for Leopard, it's very complicated to make comparisons...
Now one of the big questions is, who can get a Home Basic upgrade and how much are Home Basic users missing out on if they get that as opposed to Aero, etc.? No one knows for sure all the details at this point and we won't know for sure until official announcements are made. Although I would take OS X over Windows any day, we have to be cautious I think before saying Mac's upgrades are cheaper than Windows'. It looks like in many cases they will be, but not necessarily in all cases.
Yeah, but Home Basic is crap.

Anyone who was expecting more from this update was living in a bit of a dreamland. The MacBook design is the newest of all the form factors from Apple and from the sales figures they have no reason yet to think about changing it. Incremental updates are nice to see, price cuts are even nicer.
As for what we're now going to get at MacWorld. I think iTV, video iPod and BluRay will be the main talking points there, along with a small update across the range to support 802.11n. I don't think Leopard will be ready by January.
I am dissapointed that they did not upgrade the specs for the 1.83 model.
They managed to hold the price for the other models while upping RAM, HD and Superdrive to Double Layer. Why on earth have they not given them all 1Gig RAM throughout the line.
Yes, it drives people to buy the 2.0 model and YES it drives away the others that are not prepared to spend this extra 200$....

Apple is at the core a software company.
Go read their SEC filings.
They make money selling hardware.
An operating system is a big complicated program that lets other big complicated programs co-exist peacefully on the same system. However, Apple does not generate much revenue from software sales. If they did, it would be a separate line item in their financials and they would probably need to disclose more information about software sales, since such a large part of the increase in shareholder value would be dependent on it.
Same deal with iTunes Store sales, App Store revenue, MobileMe subscriptions, etc. Not a major part of their bottom line. Apple uses software and content to drive sales of their high-margin hardware.

Would be cool if it really did happen but I have my doubts unless someone here confirms the photo.

Blow through your data cap with 650MB downloads for every point update? Not happening until Apple can deliver smaller downloads for updates.
If I have to wait for the carriers to approve this functionality because of bandwidth concerns, then it better not count against my usage.
/though I'm on an unlimited plan
//but still

Thanks to all you guys who have put up the relevant info. Couldn't log onto the aforementioned Apple support site, so you've been very helpful.
Fortunately I haven't been affected, but I do offer the best of luck to those that are. Not in the sense that you might catch fire, just in the waiting game sense!;)

And to look at it in a slightly different way ...
Would it have helped the United States to have some country intervene and determine the outcome in our civil war?
I don't know, citizenzen. Tell me: would it have helped the United States to have some country intervene the outcome in our civil war?
At the moment, I'm more interested if Piano's military intervention criteria apply to the Republic of Congo.

Bit of a u-turn considering his last blog post in august stated "No matter how annoyed I get, I will not stop developing for Apple's platforms or using Apple's products as long as they continue to produce the best stuff on the market."!
Also, as I think others have mentioned; the approval process has not changed since he started iPhone development... I understand his frustration at having to wait for approval, but iPhone development has always been this way, and it's the same for all developers it's nothing new... Odd why he's decided to throw his toys out the pram now?
Oh well, it's a shame he's quit since it serves no purpose other than to abandon support to his own users :(

Are you insane or just trolling? You're complaining because the FREE iPod that Apple is giving to you for FREE is the previous version that was just updated today, even though you're getting it for FREE!!! For you to complain about this makes YOU the rude one. You sound like a spoiled brat whining and complaining because the porche mummy and dada bought you for christmas is black instead of red. There's just no pleasing some people.
RELAX dude!
Not everyone get one for free! It's only in US!
I can only get a discount on the old model! And no discount at all for the new.
