There are many possibilities for the graphics of the Macbook. The GMA950 is at about the end of the road. Maybe we'll see Intel's X3000. If not, one of Nvidia's or ATi's integrated solutions would be nice.
I doubt we will see a change in graphics. I mean, I still see Dell and the other computer makers offering the 950 for their "consumer" laptops. Apple is usually a few weeks behind Dell et. al. in offering the newer components, so I would be very pleasantly surprised if Apple actually changed the graphics.

IDK why iOS updates have to be a full OS download...if they manage to compartmentalize the update and allow smaller packages, then wifi updates will rock:cool:

The cache alone doesn't explain that particular benchmark, as overall speed increase clock for clock is only 10%. I haven't seen the 1.83 tested so can't comment.
OK cool, that is good news then. Personally I just wouldn't consider CD based machines to be an option.

argument
ever
you guys are arguing over nickels and dimes when it really comes down to preference. people who like os x buy it. people who like windows buy it. they dont sit and think about the cost difference between the two for the most part.
i thought die hard mac os freaks loved it for its functionality and stability, not its price advantage? and windows haters just hate windows no matter what. good for them. im a big whore and ill get the benefits of both. ;)
I hate Windows because I fight with it at work every day. Windows is why I have a Mac.
But the point of this thread is the debate over whether Vista will be reasonably priced at $399 for a full install set, vs. $129 for OS X 10.5.

But don't they manage patches with Mac OS X all the time... ? And Mac OS X has much more of the OS exposed and accessible to the user (more to be tinkered with).
There is a common issue where the OSX patches don't work right, and people's answer is always to go get the Combo Upgrade and use that instead. Many people just start at the Combo these days. I'm always willing to cope with a larger download if it makes things easier later. Even when I was on 1.5Mbps connection, I'd just let the download run while I sleep.
Personally, I'm fine with plugging my phone into my dock. (which is also a USB hub, for those worried about # of ports) It's almost as easy as setting it on a table, so I don't really care about wifi updates. I'd rather charge while downloading large files instead of burning battery.
It's fine for those that can't be bothered with a wired setup, or have only a laptop, I guess.

Think of the Nexus One, the first Google branded phone. Less than a year old and can be considered ancient and outdated. Did it get any Android updates? I don't know, but it's highly unlikely that it will get Android 2.3 (if it even has 2.2)...
The Nexus One got 2.3. (I'm running it right now.) It was one of the first to get 2.2. Mind you, the 2.3 release came MONTHS after it was projected to and I have to admit my phone is now approximately as stable as Windows 98. I'm almost considering going back to 2.2 or trying a custom ROM because 2.3 in terms of stability is a crime against technology.

I think it's simpler than that - Apple wasn't ready to tip their full hand, just whet everyone's appetite.
Hence us seeing an older, less complete build while the final version is still being polished.
For those who are expressing outrage that perfect and bug-free applications aren't being delivered - you couldn't afford them. While it can be done, it can't be done for consumer (or even "Pro") level pricing.
I don't about FCP but a lot of other PRO software has moved to yearly updates with maintenance subscription pricing to give users confidence.
I know in CAD/BIM Land we tend to buy this years release for last years features. Not that there aren't new features that will be really useful it takes us about a year to workout how to use them effectively, build that in to office system that can be used consistently and start training people only 3-6 months is the application developers ironing out the bugs.
To me Pro-software is no different to another member of staff, with all the same complications and relationship building energy before increased productivity comes a round.

Which parts of Reach fit this description?? I can only think of 1 area that was reused, and it was a part of the game you just move through pretty quickly. On top of that, the two times you visit the area are separated in time, both story-wise and mission number (3 & 9), so they have a VERY different feel each time you go through. But hey, if you have other areas, I'm all ears.
I was joking around - in the original game there were literally sections that were copied and pasted to artificially lengthen the game. It has been talked about ages ago, nothing new. That is different than revisiting places, which is common in many games ...

I seem to remember Wal-Mart's CEO saying in a CNBC show that his company doesn't bully vendors.....what a load.
Yes, my publishing company does business with WalMart and they do intimidate and bully. For sure.
I avoid shopping there at all costs.

Ok, I see your point. But when does the consumer stand up and say "I DON'T WANT WINDOWS ON MY COMPUTER" and force the Dells to load something else besides Windows. If the OS was so undesirable, the consumer would have been up in arms. Dell sells computers with Linux preloaded, but I don't see Linux making any dent in anyones armor.
You missed my point. Microsoft makes many of its billions by selling directly to OEMs, who have no choice but to buy the latest Windows OS from Microsoft. This insures that every one of Microsoft's OS releases is a automatic "success." They sell billions worth, no matter how undesirable it may be in reality.
I'm going to stop, dont want be called a troll, just making convo.

This sounds to me like Wal-Mart might be angling to get in on the online movie store business. They're certainly not going to stop selling movies, but I can see them pressuring studios to partner with them (exclusively) for some sort of online download service.
As for Wal-Mart, the company, it's power and influence on business markets in this country is not so much a commentary on itself, but instead, on society. The fact is there are a lot of poor people in this country who need cheap goods and services and Wal-Mart affords that to them. You take that away and something else will replace it.

I am for and against flash on the iPhone. There are times when I will be away from a computer and need to view a site that happens to be flash based and it frustrates me when I attempt to view it on my iPhone. At the same time, there are a lot of annoying flash based ads and other garbage that I do not care for or want to see on my iPhone.

I love how everybody is like "I've got the CDs who cares" or "Buy the CDs they are cheaper". The Beatles on iTunes isn't for you. It is for people who don't buy CDs, it's for the future when the majority of people get digital music and it's certainly for a whole generation of kids who won't know what a CD is or care, in the same way that vinyl is now seen as archaic.
I'm sure I am repeating someone else's thoughts, but it doesn't seem clear to a lot of people.
It's too bad that these kids will never know how much better sounding a CD can be over 256kbs. I put applelossless on my iPod and when I let someone listen they usually say wow! it sounds so good.

Why such a great camera on the iphone and such loser ones on the ipad?
iPhones are actually more expensive to make than iPads. Thats why you are forced to make a contract with a carrier because when you first get your phone, the carriers are loosing money. It takes two whole months for the carriers to make back all the money they spent on an iPhone.
That is why the iPhone can be cheaper and have better specs than an iPad could ever have. That is why I believe that the iPhone is actually Apples most advanced technology!

I predict this will be a hot thread for discussion. I'll admit that the app approval process leaves me a bit cold, and is in dire need of some changes.
Perhaps devs jumping ship will spur Apple to action.

Mass attacks--viruses/worms/etc.--are by far the most likely threat to encounter, but you can also be individually attacked, or tricked by someone's WiFi trap. Mac owners too should keep that in mind. Just because we are so safe from viruses doesn't mean security is ever 100%.
And the people doing this demo seem to have been responsible about it--telling Apple and the other affected companies the details, but NOT telling the public.
So... good catch!
