Yep, also been working for me on my '06 mini for years now. I'm not sure why people were ever under the impression that you couldn't do it. I mean, you could always use it for PRAM resets, why would selecting the boot drive be any different?

What I usually do is pretty much exactly what you described. Option key to "wake"/connect the keyboard, then once again quickly to get the boot choices.

I also use the menu button on my Apple Remote, it's more "reliable".

That's why I'm saying that they're going to soon be offering official unlocks for AT&T iPhones. They already offer them for ANY GSM phone that they sell once a subsidy contract has ended. At that point, you have paid them more than the full amount of the phone's value and you actually own the phone. They should offer an unlock for iPhones that are out of contract, just like they do for any other GSM phone they offer.
My personal take on why the iPhone is the one phone AT&T won't unlock after your contract ends is because iPhones are costly hardware with expensive data plans. In general, iPhone users pay more for the hardware and service, and presumably people with more money travel more often. And to keep things simple, a significant fraction of those customers would rather roam internationally, partly for the convenience of using their actual cell phone number, and partly for not needing to jump through any hoops. Whenever I travel, I take an unlocked flip phone and buy a local prepaid SIM card. It's super cheap, but it does get annoying to deal with new phones numbers and manual reloading of calling credit. Hence the reason why AT&T wouldn't want to unlock out-of-contract iPhones; users may travel with them and provide AT&T profit through roaming charges.

Apple doesn't give a damn about the shareholders any more than they do about the customers, sorry.

What makes you say this? I'm curious about your take on Apple's motives.

Personally, I think that Apple goes above and beyond to please the shareholder. They may do it in a different way than other Fortune 500 companies (i.e. vertical integration, small portfolio of products, compete in focused markets), but you can't argue the results. Apple has been rewarding the shareholders for close to a decade now, with very few hiccups.

A Manchester man killed a friend over a text message that came out incitefully wrong. He meant to write "mutter" but the iPhone decided he meant "nutter". His friend stormed over to his flat, a fight ensued, much stabbing, death. Both of these guys seem to be/have been pretty grossly unbalanced.

Story in the Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1356632/Man-killed-friend-row-mis-spelt-text-message.html?ITO=1490://)

(Oddly, as I was typing this, I started typing "wite", meaning to type "write" and it offered me "witenagemot"??)

Do you make money with that machine?
I use a 2009 MBP (17") and upgraded the RAM to 6GB (more will follow) and an SSD and it is quite a snappy machine in PS CS5 with 12MP RAW photos. An ix-core MBP will be faster in calculating effects, thus if you do a lot of effects work that take five seconds on your current MBP, they will take two to three seconds on a newer MBP.

So here's the pics and some info:
    OS 8.0
    32 MB RAM
    1 GB HD

As I said before I would like someone to get some use of this system, if that's possible, and I DO NOT want to ship it. Hopefully someone can find it a good home.

*problem attaching pics, I'll try again later*

Drop resistance is important for me. A drop will happen eventually onto a hard surface, I want to make sure it does not affect my phone at all.

It would need to be sleek though and not too thick.

    How is the otterbox commuter?

This is IMO but I think the best combo of thinness and drop protection would be the Speck Pixelskin HD. I would've recommended an Incase Slider but the entire case is thin but it is hard plastic which would either break your iPhones glass or just completely knick up the case.

Since the Pixelskin HD is TPU, it remains thin and it's a nice material for drops and it would absorb the shock MUCH better. And the drop won't show up on the case since it's so solid. So you won't have to ever replace it with a new one.

If I had to throw ALL my cases away and only pick one--just for aesthetics, protection ane thinness--I'd keep the Pixelskin HD.

Why doesn't the government just take it right off of the top? For every dollar you earn the government gets a percentage and you keep the rest. Do that for everyone and we would not need to file income taxes. The government would always know how much you earn on a constant basis.

This idea seems like it would be a lot more complex than it is now.

Who would be responsible for getting the money to the government? The "employers" or the "earners"? For instance on ebay, would ebay inc. take a % of the sellers income and be responsible for turning it in?

Don't be stupid. I'm talking about the iphone as a controller. Touch screen is not it's only control.

The racing games I play have you tilt the device to steer (kinda like using a mini steering wheel). And I've fully admitted a steering wheel is a better controller than all of other ones for racing games, but the tilt is still better than the d-pad and even joystick for racing (it's more like using a steering wheel than either).

The only thing I don't like about using the phone as a steering wheel is I am turning my screen as well, so it is harder to see what is going on. Plus I am not a huge fan of the lack of analog gas and braking.

Cool! I've used the free WireTap utility for a while, and I've been very pleased with it.

Unfortunately, with the introduction of WireTap Pro, the free one is no longer available for download. At least I couldn't find a link to it.

Most people do not seem to mind the DRM restrictions as long as they can easily move their files to the iPod. Just having the DRM and then copying manual songs to the iPod is not what most people do. They are used to the integration. So, unless he also build a iTunes equivalent with very similar functionality and has an integrated store, it is not going to pose a hread to Apple.
But then, they are going to sell DRM'ed songs from stores other than iTunes, probably fo rthe same price. What is the benefit to switch?
Unless.... he can make the subscription/rental model work with the iPod, which will have a small impact initially, but may have a larger impact long term.

This is awesome news, again it's brilliant because it states the iPhone 5 will be the same size as the iPhone 4, when I was at The Gadget Show Live on Friday I looked at all the new phones, the Galaxy S 2, the new Motorola and LG's the Xperia Play and Arc, the Nokia E7 (beautiful industrial design BTW) and I compared them all to my iPhone 4 and they were all MASSIVE and I mean MASSIVE next to the iPhone. And as for Acer's 4.8" beast........ I saw that too and thought it was a PDA or mini computer, not a smart phone!!:eek:

I believe Galaxy S 2 is actually lighter than iPhone 4 (and thinner too). So, unless pocket size is an issue, what's there to worry about?

Anyone planning to wait in line at the Summit? What time are you thinking of arriving to wait?

    Abstract
    Oct 4, 09:46 AM
OMG! That would be awesome - a phone that's a GPS Navigation that you could load where you're going in the phone with relevant picture pointers 'you are now passing MacDonalds on your right handside' and picture flashes up on your phone of the location taken by another user of Googlemaps... while you're driving in the car...

That's way more than I thought the iPhone would be... if it is the iPhone.

If it is then Apple will have pulled another 'miracle of modern technologies' off!

I think this is good thing!

    Macam

You are going to be so disappointed when they announce the phone and you realize that they just released a phone. Yes, the phone is designed by Apple and has a nice UI, maybe one somewhat unique feature, but you're essentially going to be getting a fairly regular phone with a feature that most people would never use often.

I realize that it hasn't been released yet, but the iPhone will never live up to the hype. The number of people who have said they're waiting for it to be released in order to buy it is staggering.......and a bit scary. I wouldn't be waiting for a product when I haven't seen a photo of it, when I haven't seen a features list, a technical specs page, or even a release date. That's crazy.

I was working the early shift at Sydney International Airport that day. On the shuttle bus to the airport the radio announcer said a plane had flown into a building in New York, we all laughed because we thought he must have gotten his information wrong.

When we arrived at the airport there on the screens was the event unfolding, much to our horror. I recall as the morning progressed the news was being broadcast on all the TV's around the terminal. Everyone was sitting around looking pasty faced and flights were systematically being cancelled. No-one (workers or passengers) were speaking, it was surreal. However all the oriental passengers were buzzing around, shopping, eating and joking. For them it was an opportunity to shop unimpeded. It was like they didn't see the screens around them. Occasionally they'd look up and then would go on with what they were doing.
