Now all I want is a way to get the behaviour of the OS9 Finder.
The OSX Finder is seriously flawed.
...and this for everyone who suffers from the silly gaudy childish look of OS X and misses the clean elegance of OS 9 (it not necessarily the extension conflicts and the lousy task-threading).
1) The Classic Platinum Theme (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15581). Installable on OS X using either unsanity.com's ShapeShifter or Duality 4
2) X-Assist (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10519) or ASM (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10410) to give you an application switching menu in your menubar.
3) FruitMenu (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12974) to give you back an editable / customizable Apple Menu, to give you a hierarchical menu-view of System Prefs so you don't have to launch the entire %&## System Preferences pane and then reach with your mouse a second time to invoke the specific PrefsPane you want. And to use as a launcher.
4) WindowShade X (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12243), to be able to minimize windows the classic Macintosh way, not like some Windows PC-wannabe. (Will also minimize-in-place to a small icon)
5) PullTab (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18606), to pry that damn Dock's filthy hands off the keystoke combo Command-Tab, thus freeing it up for apps with original rights to it, like FileMaker Pro.
6) To get your Trash can onto the Desktop where it belongs, there are several apps that purport to be able to do so, but I prefer to just use TinkerTool to make everything visible in the Finder, then make an alias to .Trash and put the alias on the Desktop. Find a nice MacOS 9ish Trashcan icon on the internet and paste.
7) Now to dispense with the godforsaken Dock itself. Two choices: you can minimize it practically out of existence by pinning it to the left edge of your screen and then edit com.apple.dock.plist in a text editor, manually changing the tilesize parameter to 1, which will give you a Dock about the size of a pinhead in a place where you won't mouse-over on it very often by accident; or you can nuke it entirely. To nuke it entirely, first copy Dock.app from /System/Library/CoreServices and make that copy a startup item for every user account on your machine (towards the top of the list); then make an AppleScript consisting of tell application "Dock"; quit; end tell, save it as an application, and add that to your startup items (towards the end); then, finally, sudo rm the original Dock.app from within CoreServices. Hickory Dickory, baby :)

Hi guys,
I've just reset my dad's iPhone and synced it with his Exchange account, since all the contacts are there. The issue is that the default way of adding contacts to the iPhone (via the recent calls or the dialer) saves the contacts locally.
Is there any good way to have the contacts saved by default to the Exchange instead?
On a side note, opening the contacts and adjusting it slightly is very slow.
Thanks in advance!

My zs3 is up in 2 secs and focused 1 sec later. I used to go around with a tz-1! You had to physically remove the lens cap before shooting but I still thought it was great.

This is useful stuff, thanks guys.
I plan on putting a larger SSD in my Macbook Pro later this year and moving my current one into my 2010 mini, didn`t realise it was such an involved job

ok - I went thru and approved a whole slew of songs that were marked as duplicates (same album) and so they should be in the system. When I get more time this weekend, I'll run thru and make sure I didn't miss any.
Sorry about that - time kinda got away from me :)

no it works you won't damage your machine. I have a 2009 2.66 mini with 8gb ram it works fine for more then 16 months. your chance of machine damage is nil because it is 8gb ram.

It could, but it doesn't have that much space. I would hook it up to an external raid array.
I would recommend a Drobo S. (http://www.drobo.com/products/drobo-s.php)
It is not cheep, but I have 9 gigs of drives in it, 6 available. Great product, keeps your data safe, it's fast, and easily expandable.

Look at it this way, if you want your iPod Touch to look as generic as the millions of others; be my guest, but I'd rather be a rebel than a person who's willing to be one of the iPod Touch owners afraid of change...
Why even buy an iPod Touch like the millions of other sheep and continue to line God Jobs' pockets when you could buy some other device and give Steve-O the finger?

Yes, everybody would like to know more, but what's another month?
I've already decided that unless by some miracle FCP X can really replace my FCP 7 workflow straight out of the box in June (highly unlikely), I'm not buying it until it truly can, even if it's only $300. I'm sure the post houses feel the same way...Its a no brainer for me. Ill buy it so I can at least start at ground floor. It wont take me away from Avid/FCP at work but I will at least have a head-start in case the school I teach at gets it for Fall classes.
Now as far as dropping it into a real world workflow, Id wait a bit.
Ive learned to not get caught up on the hype thanks to companies such as Adobe :P
Ill let the million plus beta-testers deal with it before I move to another CS blah blah blah :P

Hmmm... the low lite thing is a little troublesome, as I plan on mostly recording my and the guys I play with on gigs. Sometimes the lighting's not too great.
I wonder if the Zi8 is any better? Similar feature set but without the waterproofing.
They don't really give much specific information about the lens on the Zx3 on the Kodak website...
I think you'd be better off with a real camcorder. They have much bigger sensors/lenses and hence better low light performance.

Seeing as it didn't start until a day ago and I've had DP2 installed for longer than that, I'm beginning to wonder if it's not correlated;

552,139 points sounds about right if your overclocked to 10.3ghz but if not then something is wrong :p
Anyways. Try and do a slight overclock to 3.5-8ghz and you'll be finishing bigadvs in no time. You need to fully complete 10 bigadv WUs to start getting their bonus. You will get 75k + points when you complete it. I get closely 90k points when I complete one, which is around 55k PPD.
Don't be afraid to OC, the 920s are the best and you can probably get close to 4ghz on air. See how far you can go on stock voltages. I got a really good chip as I'm at 4.2ghz @1.26v and it's 24/7 folding stable. Lower volts = lower temps and vice versa.

I running 10.2.8 on flat panel iMac.
I am using latest iTunes.
I recorded streaming music with
"wiretap" software and then
had iTunes convert it to AAC.
The iTunes will NOT burn to CD.
Because it was orignially internet
radio Apple tech support will not
help. I get the error message that these files cannot be burned on CD.
I followed all instructions from Apple
web support and set preferences
on iTunes per tech support.
Anyone have an answer???

I love my G5 PowerPC- works beautifully, but I'm looking to upgrade from the PowerPC chip set to an Intel set, since it appears the software people don't want to support it anymore. I want to know if I can cannibalize my old Power Mac- just install the hard drives and memory into a couple of Intel Mac Pros that I'm looking at. Bottom line: are the memory and hard drives compatible?
