This is all making sense to me now.
When they said that a white iPhone 4 would come out in the Spring. I thought to myself, why in the world would they release a white iP4 this late in the cycle when the iPhone 5 would be out in just a couple more months???

I agree. If theres no iPhone in that mean Android wins the smartphone market for the year. Apple would also lose many of the customers to Android whose contracts are up in the summer and they would be locked into 2 year deals with their droids meaning no iPhone in 2012 for them either.

Apple's got their hands down Intel's pants as well, don't forget that. Who has exclusive rights to Thunderbolt for now, and early access to the Z68 chipset? That's right, Apple.
Sure, they may be investing in ARM, but to switch architectures again and piss a lot of people off in the process, I think not. I'm saying it's vaporware until ARM delivers with better processors that they have promised (remind you of the 3GHz promise with the G5?) Even at that, they would have to beat Intel, who has better experience, reputation, resources and establishment.

haha you'll be FINE trust me. you bought a very high end laptop and it will happily run leopard. when apple introduces leopard it will want to get as many people as possible to use it, alienating owners of a macbook pro they bought a little over a year ago is not a path they will take.

Has anyone ever considered that the media mac would not be a hardware upgrade to the mini but a software one via itunes 7

I think you need both. I can't imagine that Apple want us to get a DVR on top of a Media Mac, so a Mediad Mac should have a built in TV-tuner. I wouldn't be surprised if this gadget also double as an Airport Extreme.

If it is to have an easier time with conversions and what not, then why would I leave a system that I am very familiar with, even if it is not base 10?

Having a system of units based entirely on decimals is extremely powerful. You can convert between units simply by moving a decimal point, express very small/large numbers in scientific notation, and clearly see the greater of two numbers with precision clearly expressed.
For example, which is greater? 5/16 or 7/18
And if I've measured a golfball to be 42/25 inches in diameter, what is the precision of my measurement? Expressed as decimals, I know that a golfball measured at 42.67mm is precise to the nearest hundredth of a millimeter.
Now, of course you can express inches, feet, yards, etc. in decimal notation, but then you can't convert them without a calculator. If I tell you that a golfball has a diameter of 0.14 feet, how many inches is that? (Turns out to be 1.68.)
Besides, let's not forget that the metric system has popularity on it's side. Costly mistakes are made every year because units weren't converted between metric and customary correctly.

I am skeptical about the iphone myself and am waiting to see what apple will offer. I have never felt part of the "cell phone generation" and find all the bells a whistles superfluous. I am hoping apple will add features that I will actually want and use. What they are, I dont know, but perhaps apple can tell me what I want?

Of course they will move to ARM, everyone will. Google is allready running their data centres on ARM based servers, Windows 8 will run on ARM as well, Apple is investing huge amount of money into their A4, A5 chips. The main problem of computers nowadays is power efficiency and not computing power, because most of the computers allready are overpowerd for what their users usually do with them.
Quite true... Most but not all... And Apple prizes themselves on having a "professional" line. So some products would have to remain out, but Apple usually likes to stick to one thing...

You complain about "imposing beliefs", but asking people to "say a prayer" on the forum is certainly pushing one's beliefs on others.

"its an ipod and a phone"
i think they will gain some substantial ground
having the ability to use the pda phone as an ipod would not be out of the question but solely a ipod phone ? i think they would be cutting their profits to a certain age group of potential buyers

If anything Lion brings a different "feel" to the use of the mac, and as Apple has been showing almost continuously for 30+ years now, its the experience that get people hooked.

Apple's recently reported financials show that they are doing just fine. And will continue to do so. And as the iPhone and iPad halo drives more and more people to Macs, Apple will continue to grow.

All very nice and I'm fully supportive of more high resolution graphics as soon as possible. It's a shame they don't believe in supporting the millions of Blu-ray discs being sold though, and trying to convince people that 720p iTunes content is good enough for TVs that are bigger than any of the displays they've ever sold, whilst planning for smaller but higher resolution screens that they must apparently believe makes a difference.

This can be done quite cheaply, if Apple doesn't use off the shelf PC components - which is why current tablet PCs are so expensive. An Intel ULV processor is not cheap.

Shame that Apple moved away from the PowerPC really, when it comes to applications such as this [snip] a 30GB 1.8" hard drive (same as iPod)
Yes, it's a shame that they moved away from the PowerPC, but it was pretty clear that IBM was going to put all its consumer-level processor research on the Cell, and the Cell would have been a whole different kettle of fish for Apple. However, I've been told that using my iPod as a boot drive with any kind of regularity is a bad idea - that the 1.8 inch drives aren't sturdy enough for that kind of constant wear. For flash memory, you get all the reads you want, and the write limits are comparable to a hard drive. I also think that you'd want to use separate non-flash volatile RAM (integrated video would use the RAM as well as running applications), and not just use flash for working memory.

The iPad is not "innovative" in it's looks or design either. It's minimalism at it's best. So simplistic that it will be tough to defend in court. It is a logical basic design for a tablet.

Just got a notice from BLT that their expected ETA on the TomTom Car Kit is now 12/16. We'll see, but I wouldn't count on it.
