I agree, those ads were great, but Apple has moved on from just advertising the iPod (Classic), and now the iPod touch, iPhone and iPad are the main focus for ads.

Yeah, not the best news for 3GS buyers. That said, I dont think anyone should have buyers remorse with the iP4. The display alone will make the upgrade worth while:) But, (if 3GS isnt on the fritz) waiting till Sept. may not be a bad idea. The A5 is superb.
The screen on my 3G s ended up not functioning twelve days ago and ended up buying a new iPhone 4 because I needed to. I must say that I'm pleased with my phone. The Retina Display on my new phone sure makes a world of a difference compared to my 3G s display.

I'll be there as well! But not until about 5 or 6PM since I'm driving down from Idaho.
For those that get there early, keep us updated on the lines and stock!

Good advice so far.
One other thing. Photoshop needs a scratch disk. Dedicate the first partition (I think about 50GB?) of one of your fast internal disks as the scratch disk. The drive should not be the one that has your applications, or OS on it. I use the same drive that has my image library. Basically you want the disk to be available only to PS when it needs it.
Good Luck.
If you go with a current Mac Pro, and if you put images on an external drive, make sure it's FW 800 drive. The speed increase over USB is well worth it. Unless it's your back up drive, 'cause nobody cares how long the backup takes at 3am.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a Mac Pro (unless I absolutely needed to) unto the just released Thunder Bolt technology made it into the Mac Pros. The current best info is that TB will not be an add-in card into current Mac Pros.
If the new Mac Pros with TB are too pricey, the older (now the current versions) Mac Pros will be discounted. I think a lot of professionals are going to hold off buying a new Mac Pro until the TB enabled ones come out. Apple is going to need to clear the old stock.
all of this imho, of course.... and worth every penny you paid for it...
Thanks for explaining how to create a scratch disc and answering my question that one's photo library drive is not dedicated.
I have followed the MBP release and I wondered when rather than if, the Mac Pro will be refreshed. Thanks for reiterating my concern since the MBP release.
Also, your "wait and buy" plan is sound! I waited a few months thus far. I hope the new Mac Pro is annouced this month! Nonetheless, thanks for sharing your thoughts kind Sir!

I have been looking at the lensbaby composer for doing tilt shift? anybody had any comments or experience.
It can only do tilt. It has no shift capabilities.

Seriously, all you folks who are saying this and that about the bezel control (i.e. Every time I touch it I'll adjust the volume, or change my ringtone... blah, blah...), do you really think Apple would release it's "next big thing" without making sure it worked perfectly, intuitively, and didn't just go completely haywire every time you touch it or bump it?
For crying out loud, the company's future depends in no small part on the iPod, I'm fairly certain Apple's going to make sure each successive iPod is as innovative and market-dominating as the rest of the line has been. THat includes ease-of-use.
Have a little faith, here. You see one patent filing and freak out. Sheesh.
I agree with you.
Whatever Apple's introduce will be clever and easy to use. Remember that's their core philosophy, That's why I am not worrying too much.
I am skeptical of this patent. I believe Apple did patent the above, but they do that all the time to protect their ideas. That doesn't mean it's going to be the final product like that.
The only thing I can certain say is that the video iPod will be here soon. I hope before xmas. If not then at MWSF.

I picked up a SonyStyle catalog last week and I noticed that Sony is also announcing a GPS add-on for their cameras. Presumably it would do the same thing. I guess the idea being you can track the locations of your photographs as you travel on vacation.
To each his own, I guess, but I thought that seemed pretty silly when Sony was producing it, and I still think it's silly even with Apple at the helm. I mean, sure, it's cool, but would I pay a couple hundred bucks for that? No. Definitely an early adopter toy.
However, I do happen to be in the minority of folks that has a good GPS receiver (in my case for geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com)) so it might just be that since I already have invested good money into existing devices that provide me the means of doing the same thing, I'm reticent to spend more on the same thing. It would be neat to see more integration between, say, Bluetooth enabled GPS units (which exist) and digital cameras.

Glad you got it working.
For me it's not just the iPad but happened on my iPhone 4 too.
I have not figured out why but it will work when I either do it on a different machine or boot into another partition like the developer preview of lion.
I always thought that the jailbreak did something in the system but don't know for sure.

I wonder how these companies got access to Apple's database. Why doesn't Apple keep better watch on it? And couldn't Apple just find out who's been accessing the database, and not allow connections from that source anymore? This all seems shady to me.
I imagine the process goes through a carrier outside of the US because many countries and carriers offer unlocks for their iPhone customers.

This is a sound move by MS. I wonder how many jobs get lost when a decision like this is made?
Probably not many, Astro studios did the hardware. And to quote them "We'd like to think we could make a dent [in iPod market share], but we're not jaded"

I can help a bit. Plug the power cord into the Canon. Plug the mini USB into the Canon and full size USB into your Mac. Start iMovie. Turn the Canon on. Select playback mode on the Canon. Wait (things may take a while).
I'll take a look tonight and get back to you with more details.

Have you removed the mini from the UPS for a few hours to see if it's rebooting on it's own?

Stopped by the apple store before they closed tonight and talked to a couple guys there. They werent very positive about inventory tomorrow. Just an FYI.
They always say that. Doesn't mean you shouldn't go line up tomorrow.

Yeah so I ran TU and it was only able to save for 4.3. Can anyone think of a reason to jailbreak 3.2.2 and save those to Cydia before going up to 4.3? I'm trying to think of any possible reason why I'd want to go back to 3.2.2. At this point, it seems like everything 4.3 offers is better. And I have to believe that an untethered jb will happen eventually...
Do you have the camera connection kit or do you plan to get it? The connection kit only really fully works with the non 4.0 versions...

I am speaking specifically about TRON Legacy here, although I suppose this question would also apply to other movies that share a similar situation.
Here's what I did: I used MakeMKV to rip my Blu-ray of TRON Legacy to an MKV file, and then I used Handbrake to convert that MKV file into an M4V file formatted specifically for use on my iPad (1024 x whatever, etc.).
Here's the problem: TRON Legacy STARTS out as a 2.35:1 widescreen movie, but during various scenes in the movie, it SWITCHES to a 1.78:1 (16:9) widescreen format which is what was used in IMAX presentations. It switches back and forth between these two formats. But because the movie STARTS in 2.35:1, Handbrake wants to rip the entire movie in that format and so it's 2.35:1 all the way through -- the 1.78:1 scenes are being truncated at the top and bottom to fit that format. What I want to know is whether there are settings in Handbrake that will let me tell it, "Rip the movie so that it's 1024 pixels wide at all times, but vary the height as required by each particular scene."
Thanks for any help!
