I don't want to be the one to tell you, but Americans hold no allegiance to NATO or to the United Nations. In addition, no treaties or otherwise passed by these two organizations have any legal effect on our sovereign nation.May I quote your precious Constitution?
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

    Perhaps you missed that bit.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

As much as I love my iPod touch, it'll never replace my 160gb Classic. Having pretty much every album and song I've ever owned and/or loved, as a child, and in my adult years, is priceless. Glad I picked one up last year.

They make cars in the US, and domestic cars are typically less expensive than foreign ones. This argument really doesn't fly.

Stop making excuses for US companies that build their products elsewhere. We CAN manufacture things in this country; we used to do it a lot more and the products were affordable.

My Apple IIe says "Made in the USA" on the bottom. It's sad that we never see that on computers anymore.

we also make airplanes and other things that cost a lot. partly because shipping cars across the ocean is expensive and import duties

it's the cheap things that can't be produced in america anymore for a price people are willing to pay

The only time a full version is needed is when a new computer is purchased and then the price for Vista is completely different because of the OEM pricing by the vendor.

Not so much "different" as hidden from the ultimate consumer.

I think you're also forgetting that the current version of OSX is included with every Mac.

Now I don't know what to do. I need an iPod that can hold all of my media (just my music alone is over 100 GB) so I can bring it with me wherever I go. (I hate having to choose a portion of my music instead of just grabbing it all.) But the MacRumors Buyer's Guide says not to buy - update soon. So is Apple going to kill it or release a new version? If I wait, I might miss out on getting one. But if I get one now, I might miss out on a better model. Ugh.

    Wait.

If they release a new model, get it. If they don't release a new model, buy the current one at a small discount.

    Win Win situation.

So you're saying it is race, but not because of racism, but because of genetics? If it's genetics then how does it explain the successful blacks like your president among countless others?

Aw yes, our president, Mr Obama.

People tend to forget he is not full black, he is not black black, the man had a white mother, and had white grandparents who helped him excel in his studies. His African father left him when he was 2 years old and never came back. Everything he learned came from his white family, he was raised white, therefore him being successful and becoming president

If he would've had a black mother then the outcome would've been quite different, I can reassure you

I don't want to be viewed as a racist but rather a realist who takes factors into account, it's the sad truth

Surely Apple can't combine everything into something like (this) Or can they?

...Everything from 100% full screen to virtual keys, to selecting different modalities depending on orientation(!), to sensitivity to force of touch, to squeezing, to miniDVD drive, to ....

the exciting part is how do-able this seems to be. My Treo has a touch sensitive screen. The whole screen can view photos. Or, depending on which other mode you're in--phone dialing? contact search?--a touch on a part of the screen might dial a "2" or select a single contact and display its data; squeezing's already incorporated into the mighty mouse; some of the other features, like different responses depending upon how many fingers touch the screen, already operate on the MBP and MB touchpads, and the linking of different modes (a la phone and contact/pda are already linked on my Treo. Etc., etc.

In fact, maybe the question might be how different the apple patent is from what the Treo does: The treo screen displays icons that can be selected by touch to select a contact manager, or a phone mode, or picture viewer, or web browser, etc., and in each of those modes the various sections of the screen display touch-sensitive choices unique to that mode.

At any rate, I don't know if this multi-featured device is the subject of apple's sept 12 announcement. But i think apple has the potential to incorporate the features of this patent into hugely significant new device(s). The applications are all too obvious. I hope they do. Steve Jobs has always seemed disinclined to offer any product that's just a lot like existing hardware, thus the lack of an iPhone. The ability to incorporate phone and music player and video viewer and....(?) create the opportunity for apple to again be a pioneer--to introduce to us products we didn't realize we wanted, or that do things others had done but in dramatically better ways--as he did with the iPod.

Why did they use a 3rd party USB wireless card then?

Do we really need to rehash all this?

What they put forth as a hack is fishy. There's a lot of missing information.
They could have hung it off a bar of soap with linux installed on it and done the same exploit. Because they hate soap and think linux is for girls.

    It's just FUDtardery.

Ive always wondered about a ROC company with manufacturing in the PRC, especially since the PRC seems to want to muscle the ROC out of existence.

Politically on the surface, that may be the case, but economically, China and Taiwan are closely linked, so inking ROC out of existence will have huge repercussions for China and its businesses.

Is it just me or does anybody else think that the missing album artwork looks a little bad. It doesn't look like the same stuff you get when you buy a song from the music store.

It's a combination of things, but all pointing to the same fact. There's virtually no competition in the Mac marketplace. Competition is what drives innovation. It's what makes Intel and AMD keep cranking out faster chips. There is no such competition in the Mac marketplace. Until there is, we're going to be stuck with slow(er), more expensive hardware. And Apple is still going to be percieved as a miniscule presence.

I think Steve Jobs is a good showman, but I don't think he's a very good CEO. Apple needs an enterprise strategy. A results-oriented approach to getting business done, and integrating data across multiple platforms and industries. They need to gain wider acceptence of the Mac platform to create competition and development. That's the only way Apple is going to succeed as a company.

Lou Gerstner (who is by far one of the most brilliant business men of our age, next to Billiam Gates) said in 1999; the days of the personal computer are numbered and dwindling. Business, education, and home usage are all moving to web-centered resources: allowing integration and data unity across the board. Without an enterprise strategy, Apple won't survive. I'm not saying this to be a doom-and-gloom soothsayer. But I'm afraid it's true. Processor speed is only one crack in the hull, so to speak.

I was excited to see that blood gulch had be remade but after playing it a few times i have to say its one of my least favourite maps. There are too many vehicles and not enough vehicles killing weapons. Usually one person will get in a tank and if he is able to take out the other tank theres no real way to stop them. Particularly if they just sit up the back taking long shots leaving you no real chance to get close. Bungie needed to put a spartan laser on the map somewhere.

Again as I stated before... Apple is really starting to dabble in the 3D interface. The album art is a good example of this. Granted its a rip off of someone else's idea...No idea of the name of the app but I was playing around with it a few months back that did exactly this. *shrugs* Whatever. It makes me wonder if there is any serious GUI updates for 10.5 that we have yet to see.

I'm sure the next major update (as major as 9.0 --> OS X) will have a new naming scheme. "Eleven" does not lend itself well to marketing unless Spinal Tap's your thing.

    How bout "OSean's Eleven" ;)

It's just a typical security report. Get your panties out of a bunch and have a glass of water.

I think the issue here is that this story has been a big deal in the tech world all day (it was in the Post and had a front page story on CNet) and all of those stories make a big deal about it being an Apple vulnerability.

Then we see he's using a combination of hardware and software that I reckon not a single Mac user has installed, and it all seems a little, um, faux.

Maybe Steve will introduce the full version? "Boom" here's the new Final Cut Studio.

so what do the experts say to that? Does it mean a step up, down or a side-step on the professional–consumer scale?

Final Cut Pro is already professional. New version is even better.
