I think think this may mean they are close to announcing a universal version of MS OFFICE. VPC was a part of the Office pro version, and they probably decided not to wait to complete the universal version of VPC.

Ok AdrianK, this is what I was looking for!
So now I just need to know if there is another application that you allow to get cover arts from a specific site you wanna use.
For example: I wanna get artworks from buy.com instead of amazon.com as others programs do...

I gave up using Aperture to manage facebook and flickr images. It was way too slow, and I sometimes had Aperture delete a picture on Flickr after I did some more edits. I'd lose all the comments and favorites it had attached to it, which are part of the fun of posting there. I went back to manually uploading using the Flickr upload program.
Exactly why I use Lightroom 3 for this and not the half azz'd implementation employed by Apple.

Makes sense.
The Zune HD was very, very nice, the rest were a bit of a joke.
But the real magic of Zune is in the software and the services, both of which are Microsoft's strengths.
I love Mac OS X and find the first and third party software often has better UX than equivalents on the PC side, but the Zune PC client is one notable exception. It's really well done.

So with WMP gone and now VPC gone, the only MAJOR software developed for Macs by Microsoft is Office?
Let's just hope they don't decide to kill office. Sure, I know there are lots of alternatives out there, but you try telling that to Mr. idiot joe-average boss.
Yeah, Office will stay. They said they are committed for at least 5 more years. Office is probably the only Mac software they develop and actually make a decent profit on.

Would also be nice if they had a $250 15" LCD and a $99 CRT monitor.
But Apple has always walked away from the low margin product -- though the $650-$699 eMacs for education are reaching down quite a bit.
Basically there isn't enough margin in the low end for Apple to sell there -- it's basically a loss-leader and/or break even (if they're lucky) product for the likes of a lot of other companies.

There seems to be this unwritten internet rule that when you can't win arguments on current events, you fall back on "theoreticals".
...A corollary of which is, if it involves money, be sure you use the name of some rich person other than Warren Buffett.
(If nobody else has claimed this rule, I hereby dub it Veil's Second (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=9582595&postcount=37) Law. :D )

i love macs i love the simplicity but theres nothing out there
that will topple microsoft office period.
I actually don't think this is true anymore. It was a year or two ago, but Apple is making such unbelievable headway in market share, I truly believe if they were to release a much-improved Pages/Keynote and bundle it with a true spreadsheet App, they would have a very large majority of Apple users signing up willingly.
Office for Mac is a horrendous, unstable, and ridiculously poor application. Word is awful, Excel can't run half the Macros that are made in the PC version, and Entourage is laughably easily to corrupt. I think with some clever engineering and a little good faith (ie. bundling the software with OS X or at least keeping the price very low) Apple could really put a dent into Office for Mac use very quickly.

Apple's marketshare is still too low for that to have any effect on Office sales. What will disrupt Office is the move toward internet based apps. I still believe that Office will dominate for awhile.
However, a down-tick or two of marketshare will have a dramatic effect on the stock price and on computer users perceptions about Microsoft's monopolistic dominance.
The Microsoft dam is starting to leak.

Now that VPN does not work directly from the iPad, Instead of jail breaking your device and hacking on some illegal source (which they can make some validation code later that you cannot hack in yourself). Why not connect to a vpn'd tether (iphone / android device). Essentially it is the same thing but the IOS api cannot account for if the device being connected through vpn.
Its not going to work that way. cablevision fixed their 1.0.1 app that it doesn't connect via ipad's VPN. how is it going to work while being tethered to your iphone?

I wrote this quick little hint about how to replace all of your "mailto" tags with a small bit of javascript. This is probably common knowledge to experts but for anyone who doesn't know, just trying to contribute to the anti spam cause!
Questions, comments, and feedback are VERY welcomed. I just built this site in the last 2 weeks all from scratch. If you find the article helpful, share it, blog it, link it, anything!

We are working to become more established (in an effort to increase our business) and to get our name out all over the country, and over the world even more, I thought that I would plug our design firm here on the boards, since the macrumors community is great at spreading the word. We are fun, fresh, and great to work with. Check us out at www.artisanstudiosinc.com (http://www.artisanstudiosinc.com).
The favor that I ask you macrumors community, is that if you need any design work, or know of anyone that needs that type of work, we would love to do it for you. PM me or email me at jj at artisanstudiosinc.com.
And btw, you will receive commission for your work. :)

I'm actually not liking this mixtape at all (Enemy of the State[A Love Story]). It seems, granted he did take other beats, like he's just not trying. I mean...I don't know, this mixtape just doesn't do it for me. All of his other mixtapes though, amazing.

[QUOTE=MacRumors;12429717]Image (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/20/apple-reports-best-non-holiday-quarter-ever-with-5-99-billion-profit-for-q2-2011/)
Apple today announced financial results (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/04/20results.html) for the first calendar quarter and second fiscal quarter of 2011. For the quarter, Apple posted revenue of $24.67 billion and net quarterly profit of $5.99 billion, or $6.40 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $13.50 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.07 billion, or $3.33 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 41.4 percent, compared to 41.7 percent in the year-ago quarter, and international sales accounted for 59 percent of the quarter's revenue. The numbers represent the best non-holiday quarterly revenue and earnings in Apple history, just missing last quarter's $6 billion profit.
Apple shipped 3.76 million Macintosh computers during the quarter, a unit increase of 28 percent over the year-ago quarter. Quarterly iPhone unit sales reached a record 18.65 million, up 113 percent from the year-ago quarter, and the company also sold 9.02 million iPods during the quarter, representing 17 percent unit decline over the year-ago quarter. Apple also sold 4.69 million iPads during the quarter.Apple's guidance for the third quarter of fiscal 2011 includes expected revenue of $23 billion and earnings per diluted share of $5.03.
This quote for some reason does not show up.
That margin is truly ridiculous. Great for stockholders but really bad for consumers. A 41% profit margin, they could sell their $1000 computers for 800 dollars and still make the industry average profit.
With that kind of margin don't say they don't cost more than they should. But people still buy them because to them, they can be worth every penny.
I'm not saying that they are overpriced by definition because people still love buying them and it is the market who sets the actual value of an object. But they could lower their prices quite a bit.

@Kfred - I am not originally from the US, so my family is not there. Got a bunch of friends, but I'd rather pay than ask for a long term favor. True, iPad is just one device, but I can connect it to the TV. I tried SlingBox (I have both the Slingbox and the slingplayer device) and the quality is quite mediocre. I think the iPad solution may be the best.
Would love to run a test with someone.

i think it's a little pointless using end of hardware life cycle numbers from the DS and the PSP to now go on making big asumption ... at the end of 2011 the revenue numbers might as well tilt towards the portable makers again with their new hardwares released
