If we are discussing music here, start iTunes, go to the store, enter "Joe Jackson" and you will find some music that beats anything Michael Jackson has ever done.
Michael Jacksons dad
A common confusion, this.
I will agree with gnasher729 that Joe Jackson, the British pop/rock/jazz performer, is a good all-around musician. I have his "You Can't Get What You Want ('Til You Know What You Want)" and his signature US hit "Steppin' Out" on my iPod right now.
I haven't heard any of the new material yet, but Michael will probably never sound the same again. It's way too easy for producers to muddle with a vocal track to fit the music mix. A real MJ fan's dream, IMHO, would be a release of the demos Michael recorded for these songs, with no post-mortem alterations.

Wow, I never knew that was possible. Hopefully it will be available in Lion.

I would like to know if it is possible to boot and run Windows 7 off of an external hard drive. I have looked around a little, and it seems that I need to format a hard drive to make it able to boot right.
Is this right? And how should I go about formatting it?
Also, should I use bootcamp to boot it off of the external, if it is even possible?
If not, what should I use?
I am looking to be able to use both Windows and Mac (not at the same time), and I thought this would be a way to accomplish that.

The doors that will open will be the mall entrance between Sears and Forever 21, according to the people at the Apple store. There will be separate lines for both the reservation holders and the non-holders. They're also expecting enough for all of us who have reservations, so I don't think you'd have to worry about rushing on in. (I will anyways though, just for the hell of it.)

I hate when people ask this question.. you will always be asking wether you should get the new model or wait out for the next one. Just get it now, sell it when the 3 comes out and move on... otherwise you will be here every year asking the same question while the rest of us will be enjoying the latest piece of technology Apple delivers.

Cool, just to rule out that possibility.

I'm still looking for a Javascript IDE. Today I learned that Netscape and ActiveState plan to (http://www.activestate.com/Corporate/Communications/Releases/Press959151041.html) co-develop a Javascript IDE based on ActiveState's Komodo (http://www.activestate.com/Products/Komodo/) product, but I learned from their product manager that they are still deciding what features it will include. So it doesn't sound imminent.
If anyone knows of a Javascript IDE product that already exists, please let me know.
Thanks!

You can do a build and archive from the build menu, and then it will appear in the organizer window where you can manage your submissions.
Thank you for all your help! This allowed me to submit my app to the app store! Thanks Again,

Does anyone have any suggestions for lessening scratch/ding marks on plastic? My kitten just gnawed a ton of tiny gashes into a watch that was gifted to me from my brother :(
My home remedy of lemon pledge for dings/scratches on plastic no longer works as they removed the wax in the product. The watch is waterproof so I don't know if the pledge remedy would have even worked through water. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Wolfram Alpha, the online computational knowledge engine that launched in May, now has an app available in the App Store. According to its App Store description, the app "plugs directly into Wolfram|Alpha's supercomputing cloud to deliver the unrivaled power of the Wolfram|Alpha knowledge engine to the mobile environment."
While the app still requires an internet connection to work, it includes a special keyboard to make the entry of special characters for mathematical and other functions easy. An early review (http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-10377493-233.html?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=iPhoneAtlas) by CNET describes that the app makes all output, which are provided as GIF images even when the service is accessed through Safari, show well on the iPhone's screen and that queries can be bookmarked and published via Twitter.

The app's price is what garners quite a bit of attention - it costs $49.99 [App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=334989259&mt=8)] while the Wolfram Alpha site is free to use when accessed through a web browser, including Safari on the iPhone, and is most likely targeted at power users who need frequent access to the service for complex computations.

So this should work as a temporary solution to my problem.
1-Copy my user file off of my powerbook to a FW drive
2-Send my PB in for repair
3-Add a new user on my friends mac
4-go into NetInfo Manager and redirect my location to my FW Drive
5-When PB gets back, copy user folder back to PB.
Will that work?
Sounds good. I have no experience with Firewire drives, but as long as the OS mounts it before you log in it should be ok. My home dir is on the second SATA drive in my g5.

Thanks for injecting politics where it doesn't belong. Frankly, you shouldn't be voting if you don't even know that it's Democrats.
There is no direct impact on their bottom line because, unlike Sam's Club, Costco doesn't make a dime on any of the products they sell, only the membership fees. Of course there is indirect negative impact if the sole reason you would become a member was to buy an iPad, but I'm willing to bet the number of people who would do that is negligible.
That is the most absurd insane thing I've heard in quite a while.Care to prove me wrong?

Thanks for the reply!
He only has the 256M in the iBook... but it's worked fine for him before. It might have slowed down before when he had a bunch of things running, but never did programs crash and the computer reboot on its own. He doesn't do much with it... firefox- mail- ichat- word- itunes- iphoto. That's about all he runs. But starting last week.. the system went from running fine for him.. to being unstable.. it seems that "something" happened. I was thinking that the prebinding not being able to complete might be a clue to what that "something" was.
He has no external devices other than his digital camera..
I haven't tried anything with different users- I'll try that next.
I might end up having to do an archive and install.. but I was hoping to find and fix the problem. I'm sure I'll be plesantly surprized with how easy the archive and install goes.. (will I need to archive to an external drive?) I was hoping to use this opertunity to learn more about fixing OSX!

Try running "Activity Monitor" to see what is running on the computer. Let us now what you see.

There are currently no viruses for Mac OS X in public circulation, only a handful of trojans and other malware, which have to be installed manually via entering the administrator password.
The only anti-virus you need to protect your Mac is education and common sense.

Should i start reading up on it now, or wait till thursday when i actually get the mac before i delve into it?
You can definitely get something out of it just by reading it without Xcode available and running.
NOTE: Some folks find Kochan boring or at least slow going in the beginning. Give it a chance and if the first few chapters don't grab you skip ahead a bit.
The second book you mention (Hillegass & Conway) is a great second book since it delves more into the iOS specific/GUI stuff that is barely touched at the end of Kochan.
EDIT: If you are really anxious to get started you could always rent time at http://www.macincloud.com/. For as low as $20 for a month's access.

I'm erasing a disk with Disk Utility using the "write zeros" option. It's supposed to label any bad sectors unusable, but when it's done, will it also tell me if there were any bad sectors?
no it wont tell you if there were any bad sectors
